A recent Gallup poll showed that most Americans think it’s time to move on from the pandemic. But not the Democrats.
Democrats say by a 71-29% margin that we still should not “live normal lives”, but instead should “try to stay at home.” That’s despite the fact that the COVID death rate in America is down nearly 90%, the new cases are down about 65%, over half of Americans have been vaccinated (and over 80% of the vulnerable ones) by vaccines shown to be 95% effective, and even the redoubtable (or perhaps doubtable) Dr. Fauci says we can go out now.
So what gives? I can suggest at least six answers to that question.
First, maybe it’s just because the Dems are chicken... We do know that they’re chicken..., after all. Honestly, if you were a soldier in a battle with the odds against you, would you want to share a foxhole with a Democrat?
Two: Maybe it’s actually shrewd politics. The Dems didn’t let the COVID crisis go to waste. They used it to give free stuff to the people who vote for them. Those grabby people and the Dems for whom they vote liked that outcome, even as they name-called the rest of us “greedy.”
So why stop now? If a few trillion in free stuff was good, then a few trillion more will be better. Politically anyway, and that’s the only thing that matters.
Third: Maybe it’s all tribal. If conservatives think it’s time to move on past COVID, then the Dems are obligated to think it’s not. I’m reminded of a Dem/kid who tweeted that he will continue to wear his mask even though Dr. Fauci thinks it’s unnecessary, because otherwise people might think he’s a conservative....

good post
If you believe, as they do, that more government is the answer to any question, it makes perfect sense. Lockdowns support everything the left values - that government knows best and is the source of everything good. Capitalism, individual responsibility, freedom and liberty — all must go for their “great reset” to occur.
this ‘virtue-signaling’ and ‘wear a mask to mark me as a liberal’ is so very stupid. How do you help irrational people like this? I see folks today wearing masks and wonder why. Now I know 6 possible reasons. I don’t have patience for stupid people, so they can continue to wear their masks. I mean, maybe their teeth are rotted.
after watching Dr Steve Wilson from canada via BitChute who hates mask -wearers “tell” it on video with colorful language what he thinks of masks, I’m alright with this “mild language”.
I’m fine with the language too, but it doesn’t take much to trigger a few people on FR.
Just keep that in mind.
really good post! Thank you
I don’t think there are quite as many Dems as we’ve been led to believe.
Ever wonder who responds to these polls?
The CCP has over 1/4 of a million “students” here at any given time.
Recent news reports that 1/3 of them are briefed and debriefed with spy duties.
How many of them have IDs on Free Republic and elsewhere?
Given all that, how many “Dems” are just Dems because they’ve been led
astray by people on a mission?

Socialist Democrats still aren’t over World War II because they were cheering for Hitler! ;)
Liberals/Democrats/Socialists/Communists always exempt themselves from the policies they want to impose on everyone else.
Capitalism for me, “equity” for thee.
If you don’t submit to us (China(?), Soros(?), front-ended by Democratic elite), then you will die from one or more of our manufactured crises (COVID-19, global warming, etc.).
I will add a seventh reason: the Democratic Party includes some control freaks. People who want to regulate our lives from the cradle to the grave. They tried to do it with Obamacare and failed, so now they are trying it with COVID.

All sorts of items to address:
1) The US death count was down about 80% from May to late June last year. The months don’t matter, the 80% does. There’s not much different in the numbers now vs then, other than the peak height because last year was mostly Northeast regional vs national now, so the peak heights aren’t informative. The decline is.
2) The question of what steps to take when a variant blows past the vaccines in a few months is one of numbers, also. How many are you willing to lose in order to pretend all is well and all should go to work and ride buses and airplanes? And indeed, it’s not something you could allow to be voluntary. It’s not a question of lockdown. It’s a question of forcing people to get on buses and airplanes. Not a denial of normalcy. An enforcement of it. What death count would justify no longer forcing people onto buses and into barbershops?
3) Last year we had roughly 25% Excess Deaths in the 65+ group. 5 of that 25% were above the official Covid death count. What number Excess should permit enforcement of normalcy?
Only six?
LOL
I’m all for the dems moving to a remote island, calling it “home,”’and staying there.
Not just the Dems...
