Days after a deadly eruption of Mount Nyiragongo in Democratic Republic of Congo, the threat of another eruption forced the evacuation of much of the city of Goma. But that ended up in a traffic chaos…
Tens of thousands of residents tried to escape the major city in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday, after authorities issued an evacuation order warning that Mount Nyiragongo could erupt again.
People jammed highways, crowded boats and set off on foot to flee this major African city on Thursday, seeking an escape from the rumbling threat of Mount Nyiragongo, one of the world’s most active and dangerous volcanoes.
After a fiery fissure ripped open on Saturday, sending a stream of lava rushing down the mountain’s rocky slopes toward Goma and killing more than two dozen people, scientists and local authorities warned that the danger had not passed.

In Africa all the blackz are still considered “Minorities” LOL!
Please note for the future that the correct term is "African-American Africans".
I see three people with a mask on, one with it down.
Fauci would say an emergency does not exempt them from obeying local mask mandates.
How embarrassing it would be be trapped by burning lava flow and pictures show you lacked a proper mask. Back to CVS and buy a pack.
Here today, Goma tomorrow!
I see several reading handheld devices....isn’t that a bizarre snapshot of heart of darkness
It wasn’t that long ago they went through this before ...
“The 2002 eruption destroyed about 20 percent of Goma, burying it under molten rock, leaving 120,000 people homeless and killing around 250 people through carbon dioxide asphyxiation, burns and the lava-triggered explosion of a gas station.”
NO,NO...Goma today, democrat voters in America tomorrow.
I’m surprised none are wearing a “Biden, Let Us In” T-shirt.
“Volcanic Eruptions” are being blamed for the current border crisis.
Sure.
Actually the Goma area is one of the more prosperous areas and certainly so by Africa’s standards. Additionally they went through this in 2002 when it erupted so they instituted plans should this happen again....as did Ruwanda to assist. So the evacuation should go like most would these days....however if this volcano erupts again there could be more devastation and inability for some to return home. No doubt International Groups are on alert so time to be ready if needed.
Nah, the area of Goma is a prosperous area.
well many certainly returned and built it back up...despite the risk of what we’re seeing now.
No wonder there is pandemonium. Have they thought about the consequences of all of those fossil fueled cars on the fragile environment of Africa.
Pompei did leave an impression.
I really really regret buying that timeshare there.
And, as with so many other eruptions, how much sulfur dioxide is being released and how much will this offset all the green sacrifices by the USA?
In many ‘developing countries’ establishing a cell phone system is much easer and cheaper than creating old-fashioned land lines. In fact in pictures from Goma a couple of days ago I saw what had to be a cell tower.
