Big League Politics ^ | May 14, 2021 | Staff

...Fernando Mateo is campaigning on a pro-Second Amendment platform as a means to provide some semblance of public safety in New York City, especially at a time when law enforcement can’t be counted on to provide the most basic of services.

In an interview with Breitbart News on May 11, 2021, Mateo said that the process for acquiring a handgun permit in NYC was “slow, nearly impossible, and then issuance of permits stopped altogether.” ....

He declared, “As mayor I will direct NYPD to expedite the process of issuing carrying permits. Perform the checks that need to be performed, but do it in a timely manner and then issue the permit law-abiding citizens aren’t the threat, criminals are the threat, and right now, criminals are preying on law-abiding citizens because they know those citizens can’t defend themselves.”

In his plan to re-arm New Yorkers, Mateo will push for small business owners to apply for permits, in addition to the average lawful resident of NYC.

Mateo noted that Democrat politicians are hypocritical when it comes to self-defense given their support for gun control while relying on private security to protect themselves.....

Subway robberies certainly decreased dramatically in the week or so before Bernard Goetz turned himself in.

Have NYers seen enough crime to force them to rethink their anti-gun views? Fear is a good motivator, but I’m not sure it’s bad enough to overcome decades of liberal anti-gun brainwashing. I suspect another doubling or tripling of violent crime is required.

I have the Natural Right to be able to walk around my neighborhood in Brooklyn with a light kit of a Mini-14 and pistol with 2-3 mags for each.

But I can’t, because the government believes me to be a threat.

Get a cadre of volunteer meek-looking elderly men and women, train them in quick drew and let them ride the subways or wander the street at night. Perhaps they should dress as Hasidic Jews (or at least wear a yarmulke) plus body armor underneath their coat. Let them shoot a half dozen robbers and robbery crime would disappear practically overnight.

I like that police chief. It’s unfortunate that their people are in such a bad situation, but at least their police chief is telling it like it is and getting people to take responsibility for their own safety.

The process will still take time. Until widespread gun ownership stabilizes the situation, he should resume many of Rudy Giuliani’s pro-police policies. Then establish, through the police, a public gun training program, successful completion of which would get a citizen a “Preferred Gun Owner” license.

Such a license would mean discounted ammo purchases and gun range use, as well as get them a subscription to a police crime report bulletin.
