Stores really cannot require masks
Villages News ^ | May 9, 2021 | By Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

“Mask required” is not a law. A store is a place of “public accommodation.”

They basically have rules that really are suggestions.

The time could come when we just want food delivered. As we have heard there is shedding happening with people who have been vaccinated causing many harmful results including the ones who have declined.

We live in a contaminated world. Many prayers for all.

They can ask you to leave.

If you don’t leave, they can have you arrested for trespassing.

About one-third of the Wal-Mart patrons in my nearest Wal-Mart here in Florida were not wearing masks on Saturday.

No fuss was made.

If they have you arrested for trespassing, the store will more than likely lose your business. Most stores like happy return customers.

Why is this letter to the editor that’s completely factually untrue being posted on here? As much as I hate masks, private locations can require a mask to be on premise, ask you to leave and then charge you with trespassing if you do not.

One person not returning won’t matter to large box stores and even most medium/small ones. A typical supermarket has 1500+ people visit every day. And it usually doesn’t go that far at any rate, usually the threat of calling the cops for trespassing is more than sufficient.

It is all over the place here in the Phoenix area. Camelback Road Best Buy masks required, Tempe Best Buy does not require. Barnes and Noble requires (to be expected). Shopping for my wife, Ulta Beauty requires, Sally Beauty only recommends (fine).

What shocked me was that both Portillos Hot Dogs (chain) and Ted’s Hot Dogs (not really a chain) both required. Do they not have an idea of what kind of person goes to Hot Dog joints? In n Out and Culvers are fine (no requirement) all the way around.

As it should be. I get the idea of “public accommodation”. But as conservatives, we should have a great respect for property rights. So in the example below, either have the proper attire or go shop somewhere else.

Then “No shoe, No shirt, No Service” can’t be enforced.

I believe businesses have the right to require a dress code. Even country clubs have had attire requirements, as has restaurants, and they’ve been upheld in court.

All customers must wear plaid.

That’s FL. Here in L.A, they throw a hissy fit. I challenge it once in a while and they call the toy cop to escort me out. I dont do it when my GF is around bec. it’s a hassle to her.

But outside, I dont wear that sh*t to prove a point.

Suggestions

1) Clear face shield on glasses frame, so you can breathe.

OR

2) Get a group of people together and all go in together at the same time without masks on.

What are the store corporate drones going to do then?

Not if 5-6 people all go in at once without masks.

Then leave if asked and leave all the items at the checkout lanes.

Repeat as necessary.

In California, per health department, hearing disabled folks (and the people communicating with them) zare permanently exempt from wearing masks.

I have the printout from the state website.

Barnes and Noble requires (to be expected).

The one near me only “encourages” masks. When I stopped by there yesterday morning, about half of us in there were maskless.

I've only been asked to leave once. It was a Home Depot. I wonder what the manager thought when she realized that the four gallons of paint in my basket were custom mixed? I drove the next one on the other side of town and bought my paint. House looks great too!

Stores are private property.I suspect that they can,in fact, deny you entry for failure to wear a mask. Of course it's obvious that a member of the victim class can claim racism...homophobia...transphobia...etc.
