It is all over the place here in the Phoenix area. Camelback Road Best Buy masks required, Tempe Best Buy does not require. Barnes and Noble requires (to be expected). Shopping for my wife, Ulta Beauty requires, Sally Beauty only recommends (fine).

What shocked me was that both Portillos Hot Dogs (chain) and Ted’s Hot Dogs (not really a chain) both required. Do they not have an idea of what kind of person goes to Hot Dog joints? In n Out and Culvers are fine (no requirement) all the way around.

The one near me only “encourages” masks. When I stopped by there yesterday morning, about half of us in there were maskless.

Yes, I also live in the Phoenix area and there are signs it's easing up in some places. And the more stores that ease up on the masks in an area, the more it will accelerate. When everyone was requiring it, customers didn't have much of a choice. But now people will gravitate more to the maskless places. I know I will.

We went out to dinner in our favorite Chinese buffet last night, and the hostesses were pretty ham-handed about enforcing the mask requirement. But a couple of weeks ago we went to different buffet chain, and it was handled much more reasonably. Needless to say, I would go back to the latter establishment before I went back to the former.
