In the civil war between Donald Trump and the GOP’s waning establishment, no Republican has crossed the former president and come out ahead.
Yet as Rep. Liz Cheney’s likely ouster from House leadership lays bare, Trump has reserved a special fury for the scions of the GOP’s leading families in his attempt to exercise full dominion over the Republican Party.
Whether it’s the Cheneys, the Bushes or the lesser bloodlines — such as the Romneys or the Murkowskis — Trump has been relentless in his efforts to force them to bend the knee. Even Cindy McCain, the widow of the late Sen. John McCain — who herself has never run for office — has been knocked down, censured by Trump allies who run the state Republican Party in Arizona.
It’s the clearest sign that the modern Republican Party hasn’t just broken with its traditionalist past. It’s shredding every vestige of it.
“It’s a tragedy,” said Arne Carlson, a former two-term Republican governor of Minnesota. “The problem with the revolution is they continue to get more and more extreme. Whereas Liz Cheney was on the right, she now finds herself being pushed into the middle and, ultimately, off the cliff.”

And Cheney was never on the “right”. She is a statist who believes in centralized power and fascist style arrangements with giant corporations and banking interests.
To the DC set, “right” means neocon. Left means “revolutionary socialist neocon”. And the normal American people are nowhere to be found. We don’t even exist except as a punchline.
BS. Her American Conservative Union lifetime rating is an anemic 78%, putting her at #149 in the House (http://ratings.conservative.org/people?chamber=H&limit=1000&orderBy=lifetimeRating&state=US&year=2020).
They say that like it’s a bad thing.
RINO traitors should only expect to be shunned.
Joe and Kamala have an ample supply of tried and true Democratic loyalists.
“We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”

Sounds like good news from my foxhole
Go get’em Donald !!!
Take no prisoners
What you say is true, I believe.
What I was commenting on was that the distorted perspective offered of what Trump is, appears to me to require an exceptional level of stupidity to believe. As the little bit of MAGA that was accomplished fades into the past, people are going to be confronted by a grim reality that will be hard for the media to paper over.
We are heading into endless riots, disease, unemployment, inflation and world confrontation. The media can try to spin it, but people have to be pretty stupid to buy off on the lies as things get worse for them.
Who's "we" in this instance? Are the Bushes and Cheneys part of "we"?
Agreed. There is a long list of issues that Republican voters wanted their representatives to accomplish when they were in power. Very few of those issues were adequately addressed. The establishment ignored their constituent’s concerns and instead opted to undermine Trump and his administration.
Unfortunately, a lot of Republican voters continue to reelect those same Republican politicians over and over again.
With Arne taking Liz’s side is it any wonder at all why Minnesota is a laughingstock?
What...Adam Kinzinger, Mitt Romney and Jeff Flake were unavailable for comment and analysis?
Decent article from Polliutico, except Mittens is not part of any Republican dynasty, merely an interloper and fraudster.
That’s for sure! Well said!
And the writer of that article is trying to provoke those families and their associates to attack him in whatever ways.
Who knew we are governed by a feudal aristocracy? Serfs beware!
I worked hard to elect both Bushes, John McCain, and Mitt Romney. I am ashamed of that.
I deeply regret supporting any of these people. Had I known what they are really like, I would not have.
I find every one of them utterly disgusting.
They should have supported President Trump from the beginning and his attempts to halt and reverse the decadence that is destroying America. They should now.
Are they too stupid to understand what's happening, how America is in a horrifying decline and will fall if the decline is not reversed, or do they not care?
I'll never support any of them again.
Right on! Liz Cheney and the cabal of Bush era neocons have decided to cancel President Trump and his Republican, Democrat and Independent supporters. They apparently believe the Republican Party should consist of narrow minded big Government, Globalists, warmongers, and America-Last politicians exactly like them. They are intolerant of other points of view.
Romney’s dad’s run for President was one of the first attempts to undermine the natural born citizen clause.
