Shortly after a video emerged of Vice President Kamala Harris not saluting troops while boarding Air Force Two on March 19 in Georgia, some users took to social media to claim that she had disrespected the military and violated protocol.
The viral video being shared on social media shows the vice president at Dobbins Air Reserve Base near Atlanta heading up the stairs on Air Force Two. Harris is seen walking by two military escorts who are standing at the bottom of the stairs saluting, without her returning the gesture.
One user shared the video to Facebook on March 23 with the claim, “DISGRACEFUL: Vice President Kamala Harris refuses to salute the honor guard at the steps of the aircraft. It is a clear demonstration of her dislike for those in uniform, both law-enforcement and military.”
The same video and text was first shared on Twitter by former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik on March 22 in a tweet with over 9,500 likes and 4,900 retweets.

This morning another video surfaced where Kamala Harris this time gives some sort of “salute” to the marines before climbing up the stairs to “Air Force None”
The video ends with the VP climbing the stairs but it appears that there is no plane even do there is an engine sound in the background.

Just looking at that picture of all those people on that stand I can see in my head several USAF Quality Assurance Staff and Technical sergeants making chattering noises like a cat watching birds or squirrels on the other side of a window.
That doesn’t even look like her going up those stairs. Face is too full and round.
Ladies and gentlemen, there is a lot of aircraft in front of the entry port on AF1/2. The nose gear and its doors would be easily seen from that angle. There ain’t no airplane there, folks. Like everything else with the bidenharris occupation, it’s all fake for the cameras and the dolts that voted for them.
President Reagan was the first president to start returning the salute, but there is no obligation for the president or vice president to return a salute. In my opinion, there's nothing worse than a Bill Clinton or Barry Obama doing their half-assed impression of a military salute - they don't know how to execute it, they don't understand it and they certainly don't mean it. If the cameras weren't rolling, they'd probably flip the guard off.
I will say, however, that she did return the salute at the bottom of the stairs. The twitter mob is wrong about that. (Pains me to acknowledge it....)
I thought Reagan started the saluting thing and it became a custom but I could be wrong.
I notice she does not salute in the first video, but does in the second. Meaningless but the empty look at the top of the stairs is funny though.
I watched the video in full screen. It looks like her as far as movements and she is walking away from a helicopter that says The United States of America on it. Can’t really see her face with mask and hair blowing.
Not to worry. They’ll add in the plane in post-production.

No requirement to Salute.
According to Army regulation, the president as the commander-in-chief is required to receive a salute, but there is no requirement that the vice president receive a salute.
That line can be blurry. If a president is engaged in official travel and makes a public appearance, that footage can be used. It's part of the public record. But walking up the stairs to a non-existent plane is filming footage for a staged scene. It's not a real event. There is no public record here. Who is paying for the filming, what is the purpose, and are government resources being misused?
This could be a weird one-off, or it could be part of a pattern. This is already too much of a virtual presidency. Biden and Harris are mostly playing roles on tv. The blurring of public and private/political functions is an ongoing threat. My guess is that they were shooting campaign footage, in which case the airmen had better be paid actors.
The steps probably just led up to her broom.
