Washington D.C. is on edge in advance of the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial, with violent riots expected should the verdict not give the desired result. Because of this, city officials say they have prepared for the worst and the Secretary of the Army has approved the activation of the National Guard. However, the 250 D.C. National Guard troops that are being activated to support the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department won’t be armed. They, instead, are expected to assist with street closures and to keep areas around the city safe. The President is the only one who can authorize the troops to arm “at this time, that’s not a plan.”, a spokeswoman for the National Guard said. She requested anonymity.

And they suggest they are responsible and deserving enough to become a state? I say give them back to Maryland, which I believe is historically the agreement for the land given to the federal district.

I think there’s a real chance that ANTIFA/BLM will attack the National Guard and some soldiers will be sacrificed for the cause. Things get nasty, NG has no real way to defend itself, soldiers die.
And the Democrats will say, “The line has been crossed! They’ve gone too far! We need a crackdown!” And they will move out to close churches, round up Trump supporters, and punish dissent.
He wants our military to be targets. Now the planned rioters know they won’t be armed. He will use it as a excuse to push for gun control and tighter restrictions.
They even closed parking areas to allow for the rioting.
They should know based on this report.

The DC Metropolitan Police may be armed but that will probably be to make sure any Guardsmen who might be inclined to get out of the way, don't. They'll probably form their typical gauntlet to channel Guardsmen right into the teeth of the protestors a la the way they did with and Trump supporters.

If I was commanding that National Guard outfit, I would tell that idiot mayor to arm the city council with bouquets of flowers and send them out on “mostly peaceful protest” patrol.
They should resign on the spot- let those who made that decision for them to be unarmed be the cannon fodder and on the front line of those armed, angry anarchists.
DC has no say in the matter.
