Authorities had previously questioned Brandon Scott Hole and seized a weapon while the FBI was warned he might “suicide by cop”, according to multiple reports. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s deputy chief of criminal investigations Craig McCartt confirmed at a Friday afternoon press conference that authorities seized a shotgun from the shooter in 2020.
The FBI’s special agent in charge, Paul Keenan, separately confirmed that agents questioned the 19-year-old after his mother warned her son might “suicide by cop”, according to Associated Press.
“FedEx officials have confirmed that Mr Hole was a former employee of the facility,” he said.
Investigators searched a home in Indianapolis associated with Hole and seized evidence, including desktop computers and other electronic media, McCartt said.
Paul Keenan, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Indianapolis field office, said Friday that agents questioned Hole last year after his mother called police to say that her son might commit “suicide by cop.” He said the FBI was called after items were found in Hole’s bedroom but he did not elaborate on what they were. He said agents found no evidence of a crime and that they did not identify Hole as espousing a racially motivated ideology.

They didn’t drop the ball.
They didn’t want to interfere with MKUltra.

Well, the only thing the FBI cared about was that he wasn't “an extremist”. Which, to the FBI means he wasn't a conservative. (Draw your own conclusion, then as to his political bent.)
Off to look for nooses masquerading as garage door pulls!

The FBI was vacationing/investigating the alleged ‘noose’ at a NASCAR track that weekend.

Am I reading this right? As long as he did not espouse any racially motivated ideology he was not considered to be a danger. So not an interest to the FBI? Does this mean if there had been a swastika or KKK hood in his possessions all those people would still be alive?

He didn’t have an evil assault weapon.
To: SeekAndFind
I don’t know why people are so quick to blame the FBI on this one. If he didn’t commit a crime and there was no evidence he was planning to commit a crime, they had no reason to detain him or even keep an eye on him.
When did FR get filled with nitwits who are cheerleaders for a police state?

The FBI was too busy going after peaceful protesters from the Jan 6th peaceful protest rally.

They put this country through three years of Russia, Russia, Russia, but they didn’t try to stop this.

Then why did they seize his gun?

If his mother called the police and he was living in her home, then there may have been a legitimate question about who owned the gun and whether he was legally permitted to keep it there.
This article says the police seized evidence from “a home associated with Hole” after the shooting. I find that language very odd.

I might get flamed for this, but here goes. Mom calls the cops because her son is odd and thinks he might commit suicide by cop. They (cops/FBI/’authorities’ show up and see no evidence of crime. (To my knowledge possession of a KKK hood or swastika is not a crime in this country). If there was no crime, what were the FBI/police supposed to do? I don’t think we want to live in a country where we can be jailed because we might commit a crime—especially in the current political climate.
They showed up, could find no evidence of a crime in the planning, nor evidence of communication with radical groups, so they left. They were being honest when they said they had ‘knowledge’ of him. But they had nothing to hold him on.
Please don’t take this as support for the F.B.I., it isn’t. It isn’t. He was a nutter who came to their attention, but there was nothing they could do.

At what point does physical intervention become necessary? This is why it is in our interest to support an armed, trained citizenry. 9/11, for example, would never have happened if we werw allowed freely to carry anywhere and everywhere. But we cannot allow arrests on the basis of suspicion. We’ve been slipping into that path with too much ease of late.

I agree. I think it is important that “normal” people be allowed to carry. Specifically because we can’t lock up everyone who seems “odd”.
If the day comes when come “odd” guy decides to walk into my general area carrying a firearm, I would like to be comforted by the thought that those of us in the crowd arer ready to defend ourselves.
Doesn’t mean no causalities. But it probably prevents 8 casualties.

First thought is for those he killed.
Looking at photo: before he would have been considered a sad looking teenager that probably needed help. His mother tried, apparently. (Unknown yet. I am projecting here.)
Was he disruptive in class because of inherent “toxic masculinity” and given drugs to make him more manageable for his teachers? Or a nasty bully to others.
Possibility of help for him and those he killed is gone and he is now he is just murderer and a lost soul.
