April 14th, 2021 at sundown is Israel’s Yom Ha’atzmaut (day of independence), the 73rd birthday (by the Hebrew calendar) of the modern State of Israel. On this day, 73 years ago, the world saw an actual miracle from God. After almost two millennia, the Jewish people were able to re-establish their political and geographic nation-state in their ancestral homeland as Israel declared its independence.
After the Bar Kochba revolt in 135 CE, the Romans punished the Judeans (Jews) for revolting for the second time in sixty years. To poke those rebellious Judeans in the eye, the Romans changed the name of their country from Judea to Syria Palaestina. The Romans changed the name to Palestina because the ancient enemy of the Judeans was the Philistines. The Philistines were long gone by that time, having disappeared from existence around eight hundred years earlier, but the Romans wanted it to hurt.
The Byzantine Empire took control of the Holy Land around the year 330 C.E., and in the year 638, it was conquered by Muslim Arab forces and the Ottoman Empire. After WWI, Great Britain was given Palestine to control.

Hooray!
Isaiah 66:8 8Who has ever heard of such things? Who has ever seen things like this? Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece.
It was actually May 14, 1948 , not April 14, when Israel became an independent country.
Wow. 4 pennies for a newspaper in 1948.
I know, inflation, inflation.........
Truman never did ANYTHING without a payoff. Just read about his wife’s business after he became president. Just saying!
Such a man would have left the White House a rich man.
He didn’t.
IIRC the state dept. was a hotbed of Anti-Semitism even then. That includes George Marshall who I think was secretary of state then.
And Truman didn’t complain about living in Blair House while the WH was being renovated. Unlike the Indian-Jamacain princess VP today.
He went back to Independence, Missouri and lived a quiet life.
NOBODY “helped” God do anything. We help God and/or God uses us.
The only part that was missing from that story was the Kansas City partner he had from the days he was in the clothing business. His name was Eddie Jacobson. It’s a fascinating part of the story because Eddie was able to get into Harry‘s mind about the need for the Jewish homeland.
