Calling something energy catalysis (E-Cat), low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR), or condensed matter nuclear science (CMNS) cannot hide the fact that the idea is simply the same cold fusion announced to the press in March 1989. As cold fusion was notoriously debunked by the scientific community in the 1990s (Close 1991; Huizenga 1994; Taubes 1993; see also David W. Ball’s article in this issue), new names such as these popped up to conceal the true identity of the idea.

I'm listening...................
Wow.
There are just so many different topics on Free Republic.
Here we have a thread about E-Cats.
Plug them in overnight, and you can go ten....three hundred miles the next day.
Science.....Improving Cats Since 1960.
That, is what is known as a Norwegian Forest Cat.
You find them on the plains of Canada, hunting moose.
Cat gotta climbing gear?
I don’t hunt moose..................
Norwegian Forest Cat? I have one of those lounging right here in my living room-she has never caught a moose-only mice-got her from the shelter right here in BFE...

I’ve read about cold fusion for years, and even with just a layman’s fund of information, it never seemed like it would be possible on a large scale-just my opinion...
>>An excerpt from the article of which I agree wholeheartedly...
With all the scientific evidence against it, why do people fall for cold fusion? The short answer is science illiteracy. The public, while enjoying the technology that is fundamentally based on modern science, is deplorably illiterate in the basic premises of science such as verifiability, repeatability, and evidence.<<
They also believe there is such a thing as “scientific consensus.”
You don’t like big cats?...............
Well, you should.
They’re everywhere and they are quite a nuisance.
They like to sing, but they’re not very mooseical.
Let's see what the future holds. One Dr. debunked the theory that cholera was caused by a bacteria by slurping down a sample of isolated Vibrio cholerae. Lucky man, he happened to be immune.
This bold move scientifically proved for all time that Vibrio cholerae didn't cause cholera.
I guess the malodorous theory of disease causation is still dominant in medicine...
I notice these sources never say that tokamuks have been debunked. Lockheed Martin said in 2014 that they would have working fusion in 5 years. 2014 + 5 = 2019.
And big fusion previously has always been 30 years away, or slightly longer than the head researcher’s time to retirement.
120 years ago, Thomas Edison ‘debunked’ Tesla’s alternating current. In 1930, a group of German scientists published ‘100 Scientists Against Einstein’. Per Albert Einstein: “If I am wrong, one scientist would suffice”.
That said, E-cat looks like a scam. And it is true, cold fusion by another name failed replication in many labs. It also passed replication in many, although fewer, labs. What nobody has done, big or small, hot or cold, is produce commercially viable amounts of net energy.
As for the theoretical science/small scale engineering: quantum tunneling in the realm of electronics still produces surprising results, so that this decade may have one or more competing designs.

Sure I do — my browser OTOH...
“ You find them on the plains of Canada, hunting moose.”
When they aren’t pining for the fijords.
Mooses are just big mices with horns.
The answer is simple. It competes for $:
