Papal Preacher Says Catholics’ Political Divisions Have ‘Wounded’ the Church

The preacher of the papal household railed against political divisions that “polarize Catholics” in his homily on Christ’s passion and death Friday.

“What is the most common cause of the bitter divisions among Catholics? It is not dogma, nor is it the sacraments and ministries, none of the things that by God’s singular grace we fully and universally preserve,” said Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa in the Good Friday service in Saint Peter’s Basilica.

“The divisions that polarize Catholics stem from political options that grow into ideologies taking priority over religious and ecclesial considerations and leading to complete abandon of the value and the duty of obedience in the Church,” he warned during the evening ceremony, attended by Pope Francis and a handful of clergy and members of the faithful.

“In many parts of the world, these divisions are very real, even though they are not openly talked about or are scornfully denied,” said Cantalamessa, a Franciscan friar who has been preacher of the papal household since 1980. “This is sin in the strictest sense of the word. The kingdom of this world becomes more important in the person’s heart than the Kingdom of God.”...

He sounds naive in the same way moderates in this country talk about how “we have to come together and put away our differences” without realizing how profound those differences are and prohibit people on each side of the political divide every coming together.

I’m not sure that Jesus wasn’t political. It’s just that politics was so different in the ancient world than in countries that are ostensibly republics, democracies, whatever and have political parties.

I read it the opposite:
“The divisions that polarize Catholics stem from political options that grow into ideologies taking priority over religious and ecclesial considerations and leading to complete abandon of the value and the duty of obedience in the Church,”

means the sin is to align with a political party to oppose the traditional and binding magisterial teaching of the Church: for example, regarding abortion, homosexuality, and the requirement to actually believe the scriptural Gospel that never changes.

The division arises when human pride refuses to acknowledge the simpmicity of the Gospel.

It’s okay. I once referred to a public demonstration as a pubic demonstration.

Francis continuing destructive confusing pontificating on temporal worldly social behavior, which has nothing to do with and avoids articles of faith and morals rebukes or restrains contemplative religious orders to favor such behavior .

By refusing to question and expound on the profound differences with the claims made by Islam and its followers Reaching out to and defend what Judeo/Christian beliefs are.Or challenge claims that Islamist make they are following God’s command using deceit and deception when ruthlessly murdering and torturing non believers and destroy their edifice .Smply because of its assertion of being monotheistic. Then winds up making a point of honoring it and placing it on an equal level because of that claim. Is leading to misguided conversions which is the result of my so called Pope playing games with this so called mono theistic cult and is creating a serious fracture within Christianity and The Roman Rite .

The Catholic church wounded itself by going woke and supporting critical race theory and the fake concept of systematic racism.
