An official announcement says:
Dr. Anwar Shukiri was shot yesterday at 10.15 a.m. in Acre. He later died at the Italian Hospital in Haifa.
Two people were arrested.
Our Arab informant adds:
Anwar Shukeiri, a 29-year-old doctor who graduated from the American College of Law in the capital, was the son of the old Mufti-of-Acre, a rival of Haj Amin al-Husseini for decades.
The son, like his father, belonged to the Arab opposition, and did not refrain from speaking openly about the terrorists who exploit national feelings for their personal needs.
This revelation of the heart cost him his life.

It is learned that two Arabs came to the house of Dr. Shukeiri on Thursday morning and asked him to visit a patient. He followed them into the streets, and when he stepped out of his car at Fakhoura square, several shots rang out and he collapsed, unconscious.
After being given first aid at Acre, he was rushed to the Haifa Government hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds an hour and a half later..
At the grave-side several eulogies were delivered, and a sister of the murdered man was heard to cry out: "Down with the Mufti and his followers."

A local politician who was prominent for a time in the GOP was at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles the night Bobby Kennedy was assassinated. He was at the victory party for Max Rafferty, the conservative GOP candidate for US Senate, whose victory party was at the same hotel. He said that right after RFK was shot, he saw a man who resembled Ahmad Shukeiri walking by, apparently in a haste.

the Arab Higher Committee for Palestine, in Beirut, has instructed its New York office to offer “all possible assistance” to Sirhan. The committee’s spokesman, former Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini, who visited Berlin during World War II and collaborated with Hitler, said it had instructed its New York representatives to legally defend Sirhan as far as United States law will permit. The committee is known in New York as the Palestine Arab Delegation. Its New York representatives are Issa Nakhleh and Omar Azzouni, both attorneys.

Ahmed would later be known, the first PLO chairman. In 1964 he was appointed by Nasser, after (his rival) Saudi Arabia's king Faisal fired Shukeiri from representing in the UN, (mid-Dec.62) for supporing/saluting in UN (Nov.30.62) Nazi gang in Argentina.
