Developed in the early 1960s, the M79 grenade launcher saw use in the Vietnam War – and for those who carried the weapon, it was either instant love or lasting hatred.
The weapon was simple to use. Much like a shotgun, it was a break-open, shoulder-fire weapon that could fire a 40mm grenade. It utilized a “high-low propulsion” launching system that reduced the recoil, yet allowed shooters to launch a grenade upwards of 400 yards, which was far further than a hand grenade could be thrown. The rifled barrel gave the round a right-hand spin, which also ensured accuracy.

I could use one. Where can I pick one up?
Another day of you pimping your website which truly sucks.....
It was a fun gun to shoot! When the sun was right, you could see it flash off the projectile...
Not “far further” rather “much farther” is the correct usage.
Good ol’ Thumper! Love that weapon. Really love his bad ass big brother, the MK19.
You can legally own a M203 or a M79. Just fill out the forms and pay your money and wait. But all the fun rounds are banned. You can get chalk, CS and smoke rounds.
If I had a Grenade Launcher, some son-of-a-bitch would die.
And the 40mm grenade itself is very small - has to fit within its outside shell and is a little spherical thing - and the fragments are really, really small.
Better than the M203 that followed, in that it actually reloaded faster and wasn't a clunky, angular brush-catching mess like the M16/M203 combination. The M79 was a light, handy and reliable little beast and when nobody was employing automatic weapons in your direction, fun to fire.
getting an m-79 is no problem... getting the 40mm HE rounds is your problem.
I prefer the M79 to the M203. Grenades are very important and a dedicated platform is superior to a dual purpose platform imo. I never felt that the M203 was accurate enough. A M79 grenadier can always carry a rifle too.
All of the 40 mm round now are classified as a low order explosive when you have to have an explosives license now
Only if your “colored”!
Fixed it.
Thank you!
Also: “greater accuracy and rang” Who proofs your work?
Yeah. I figured that.
Garand Thumb did a video on this. Was this a recent thing on the part of the ATF?
Seems like you two are the only ones with a problem here...
There’s a lot more.......
Most just got tired of posting.....
The site is truly awful in its accuracy and quality of reports...
