Matt Gaetz was on with Bannon for the past half hour. The gist is they both think that "the best defense is a good offense" and that the centerpiece must be exposing the truth about the stolen election.
The GOPe Senate HATES this idea, and says Gaetz cannot do it while he is a sitting Congressman.
Matt Gaetz says that he will resign from Congress immediately in order to defend Trump in the Senate.
As in it will not become a trial with respect to actual fraud.
It is a nonsense show trial.
How many trials was that? What was his role in them? He graduated law school in 2007 and became a Florida state congressman in 2010.
Since Trump isn’t the sitting President, Roberts was not needed.
Leahy is president pro tempore of the Senate which is why he is presiding as the judge. Pro tempore have served as judges in the past during impeachment trials. Constitution allows the Senate to make the rules regarding the trial. Only stipulation is the judge if impeachment involves a sitting President.
If he resigns, how liberal will his replacement be? Best stay where he is.
Queeg. That is what so many people are missing on this thread.
This Trial is supposed to come off as pure kabuki, the House presents their case -- with 720p vidya screens lofl -- and the Senate falls short, way short of votes, what those votes are supposed to do: 'remove' a private citizen? Whatever. Not the point.
No, the point is, if Leahy so much as even accidentally drops that gavel to stop the defense, then Gaetz would go straight to SCOTUS for ruling "In Re:" and pull Queeg right into that which Big John desperately wants to stay out of.
You realize that the reason Queeg specifically declined this kabuki Trial, he is the tie-breaker for adoptions. He is the 'question reader'. In Trump's 1st Impeachment Trial, Roberts (and ONLY ROBERTS could have) made critical rulings ACTING CONSTITUTIONALLY as PRESIDING OFFICER, the SUPREME COURT CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE UNITED STATES.
Trump's counsel, Gaetz or whoever, should open with a ticklist of Constitutional questions and force Queeg fully into the kabuki spotlight front and center -- including 'how dare you shirk your Constitutional duties, Mr. Chief Justice'; and then pull out the dirty ballots.
This kangaroo court is not a legitimate Impeachment trial because the Constitution requires the Chief Justice of SCOTUS sit as the Judge. IF the demon rats had ANY integrity then Leahy would be recused from voting on the final. But the rule of law, the power of the Constitution and the moral uprightness are no longer factors where the demon rat party is in power. The enemies of The Constitutional Republic were allowed to take power and rule over US. Abortion being their holy sacrament, the demon rats have aborted a once Great Republic.
I agree with you completely on this.
I have seen a lot of this lately.
Same here. He can do more good at his seat than resigning.
Go Matt Go! He would be perfect!
Well, yeah, that would seem to be his plan.
He’s a fighter, and he’s young and ambitious. I’m sure that he’s actually a little astonished that the GOPe fell for his “don’t throw me in the briar patch” routine, but here we are.
Game On!
Please don't believe I am arguing that. What is true, according to very plain language of the Constitution is that no one who is not the Chief Justice of the USSC can be the judge. That alone renders any other hearing to be nothing more than a kangaroo court. One must believe the CJ by refusing to participate agrees.
IMO, what makes it almost impossible to use this "proceeding" for anything of great value, is this yesterday from an R senator:
“If they start trying to prove that Georgia and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were stolen, that’s when you’re going to lose everybody,” - Sen. Lindsey Graham.
With duplicitous friends like that...
The trial will last about a day. He will be able to run afterwards.
I know nothing about his district—but I don’t think resigning a seat when there is a 7 vote difference might not be a great idea.
If he resigns, the seat will remain vacant until a special election is called, which will probably take a few months to happen.
He can run again for his seat at that time.

“””I can’t believe all the “naysayers”.”””
We faced a similar number of FReeper ‘naysayers’ when Representative Ron DeSantis said he was leaving the House and running for Florida Governor.
The naysayers were wrong then and they are wrong today.
Governors can’t fill House vacancies, only Senate vacancies. If Gaetz resigns, there would be a special election to fill the vacancy.
Thanks, I saw that only after my facetious post.
No guarantee he’ll win back his seat.
