Developed by the Russian-based Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) and officially unveiled during the May 2015 Moscow Victory Day Parade, the T-14 Armata is the new generation of main battle tank (MBT). Unlike many current Russian military platforms, which are largely legacy holdovers from the Soviet era, the T-14 is truly something new.
Design
The outline of the tank, from its hull to its long and boxy turret, more closely resembles modern western tank turret designs and is quite the departure from past Soviet designs.

No doubt an impressive weapon in its class. But would you want to be part of its crew on a modern battlefield with stealthy drones overhead?
Get back to me when they can network them as well as even the M1-A2.
Nice design though.
They do love their autoloaders.
Yea, with the rise of the Drones, I think the era of the Tank is going into a slow fade. A $30,000 drone vs a $8.5 mil M1A2 isn’t a fair financial fight.
Although I don’t really expect a hot war between major powers any time soon, one really wonders what it would look like. Are main battle tanks sitting ducks? Are aircraft carriers sitting ducks? Seems like a lot of big ticket items may be obsolete. Or not.
I always think of Saddam’s tanks littered all over the battlefield and wonder how much he spent on them and how many men died. All a waste.
Things are far worse in China than is being reported in the MSM narrative. There are food and electricity shortages as well as social unrest. China has always coveted the immense untapped wealth of Russia’s underpopulated Pacific territories and Siberia. You may see that tank in action and how it fares against Chinese drones sooner than you think.
Snazzy lookin', though.
I read somewhere that they are already fully networked and can even be deployed in a ‘swarm’ mode where one or two are manned and the others drive themselves in concert with the manned ones.
I wonder if a targeted EMP burst would disable it (or any modern tank)?
“untapped wealth of Russia’s underpopulated Pacific territories and Siberia”
It always seemed to me if their were wealth to be made there, then people would be living there.
The Russians may not expect such a fight in their future. Against lesser foes, this would be formidable.
It doesn’t look like they went to much trouble to protect the turret ring, which is usually considered a pretty vulnerable spot on an MBT.
Soviets build a lot of cities in Siberia, but now most are ghost towns.
Tanks can take a town. But tanks can’t hold a town.
Maybe they can put pressure on their surrogates at Twitter and Facebook and convince people that things are really A-OK.
Do believe that the Russian strategists know that eventually and inevitably, they will have to defend Siberia and their Pacific coast from China. Yet the distances and persistent gaps in Russian design and manufacturing is a huge problem for them. Not their courage, the Russian people have demonstrated amazing qualities under the most dire of conditions. Yet if they were smart, under Biden there will be many unemployed American designers and engineers with arms experience. It may sound traiterous to some but America’s long term interests would be well served if the Russians hired that talent to modernize their arms industry for their coming fight with China.
The turret is unmanned. I doubt there is much of a ring, if at all.
WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones.
The Rooskies probably used tube electronics..!!
