The revolver or wheel gun is that classic cowboy gun that everyone wants; it’s reliable, powerful, and is just plain cool.
Smith & Wesson brings a new modern take on the revolver with the 327 TRR8, a .357 blacked out showstopper designed with SWAT use in mind.
Is it the best new revolver in town, or does it lose the wheel gun showdown?
Let’s take a closer look in my review of the Smith & Wesson 327 TRR8 just below.

Wheel guns are great.
Looks bad ass. And the sound alone would make most baddies crap their pants.
Even $1400.00 wheel guns?
For protection I’d prefer an automatic. The filled magazine can be removed from the gun for safety purposes.
I have a S&W 329 in 44 magnum. About $1,200. So, yeah, even $1,400 wheel guns.
Besides, wheel guns take more time to produce than the typical semiauto. However, once produced they usually work great for decades.
yup. me too. 13 rounds are better than 6
I would challenge that thinking.
I say it’s very hard to beat a revolver for home defense.
Sure you wont get 15 rounds but unless you leave a round in the pipe, the fumbling around in the dark trying to rack the slide could be your life.
Even if you do leave it loaded, semi’s can jam which likely wont ever happen with a trusty revolver.
8 shot revolver,
Kool.
Ruger sp101
Glocks and dive don’t jam. One in a million odds.
So tired of the jamming argument like this is 1896.
And in the real world, under the yellow sun, the standard 6 to 8 round load on a revolver will take care of any problem you want. And best of all, a person can learn to load it and can put it in a drawer. 11 years later they can grab it and operate it instantly.
Not saying that is what you should do, but not everyone takes up shooting as a sport and/or lifestyle.
And that 327 Federal Magnum is one very nasty cartridge.
I also like the nice black finish.
I disagree with the author's characterization of this as like a cowboy gun. Everyone knows a real cowboy revolver has to be an old single action, not one of those new-fangled double action revolvers.
Inflation for sure.
I really doubt that any SWAT teams will be adopting it.
Sigs, not dives. Autocorrect sucks
Glocks and dive don’t jam. One in a million odds.
People do win the lottery on those odds so will that be your lucky day?
Revolvers don’t leave brass on the floor that can be traced back to your gun. Maybe you need 13 rounds to stop a threat, but I don’t. My GP100 has seven rounds of .357, my Taurus .357 has 8. If I want capacity my FN 509 Tactical has two 25-round magazines and one 17 round—I’ll be fine.0
Not in my budget, fer shure, fer shure!
It’s a .357. Deceptive model number, like the Glock 45.
But an N Frame .327 would be interesting. I wonder if they could squeeze in 9 rounds.
