Against the 25th Amendment — and Warily against Impeachment
National Review ^ | 1/7/2021 | Andrew McCarthy

Posted on 01/07/2021 2:01:44 PM PST by Onthebrink

These are dark days in the history of the United States, and no one is feeling them more intensely than Mike Pence.

On Wednesday, the vice president admirably turned aside the president’s high-intensity demands that he shred the Constitution. Trump was pushing Pence to usurp the states’ power over the disposition of their electoral votes — in effect, to claim dictatorial power to reverse President-elect Biden’s victory. Pence’s fidelity to his constitutional oath so enraged Trump that the president publicly rebuked him even as an insurrectionist mob was descending on the Capitol. Press reports indicate that the rioters, upon overwhelming security forces and entering the building, set about searching for Pence — who, by then, had been whisked away while members of Congress were also being safeguarded.

First sentence in the article:

“The conduct we’ve witnessed is impeachable, yes.”

You lost me, National Review.

I think before all is said and done, Trump will be removed. But no one can say he did not try every avenue available to him. I’m proud of my votes for Trump. And I suspect history will be very kind to him.

McCarthy has caught the TDS virus.

His emotional hyperbole is a disappointment.

They will impeach as the only purpose will be to stop a four year campaign and a second term in 2024.

Any federal judge can deliver the oath of office to the president and with that, Trump only needs to select one federal judge to swear him into office for his second term on January 20th.

When integrity of elections is at stake the republic and the constitution are at stake.

No day in court, no serious investigation.

Republic is dead. That is a significant enough reason to me for what Trump did.

McCarthy has caught the TDS virus.

"Caught" it? LOL.

He's been a rabid never-Trumper since the beginning. It's been a co-morbidity for him ever since Trump came down the escalator in 2015.

I think he could have kicked the contested states electoral votes back to the states legislature in the states that the rules of the election were changed illegally. If so then he chickened out. I don’t know for sure if he could have or not. I hear conflicting views from top constitution lawyers. Did anyone hear from Levin, I didn’t hear his view on it.

Pence will be a private citizen on the afternoon of Jan 20th. Ditto for Trump. Trump can resume being a billionare businessman attending to his assets again. Pence would be a fool to set a precedent to damage Trump with 13 days left in the term. As for impeachment, it was a failure before and they still do not have a 2/3rds majority for a conviction.

“Trump was pushing Pence to usurp the states’ power over the disposition of their electoral votes — in effect, to claim dictatorial power to reverse President-elect Biden’s victory.”

I swear this makes me feel like I’m losing my mind, and living in some batcrap crazy nightmare alternate reality.

Please tell me I’m not alone and not insane.

I don’t think Trump incited anything. What are they going to use the 25th amendment for. If Congress pushes this through or tries to impeach him or make it so he can’t run again in 2024 then they may push the button that ignites it. I am wondering why they keep pushing him. It looks as if there guy will be put into office. Does Trump have something on some of them to the point that they will risk people coming after them in there own homes to get them out of office. I mean pelosi had her house vandalized and I guess that don’t scare her. I hope Trump releases everything he said he was going to release. He said one day he would let us know a lot of info.
