President Trump casts a long shadow over the Republican Party even as his attempts to cling to power look doomed to failure.
Trump could run again in 2024. If he does, it is hard to see anyone beating him for the Republican nomination.
Although Trump lost the presidential election by around 7 million votes, he is by far the most popular figure in the nation with GOP voters. He has enormous fundraising prowess — he raised about $170 million in the month after the election — and he can drive media attention like no one else.

Senators often have zero executive experience.
I’ll take DeSantis.
Oh,brother... The Hill.... They meant to say 5 RINO contenders. If The Great Steal is allowed , I’m done voting anyway.
Screw the Republicans they aren’t on my side either
There’s the spirit.
It’s so taxing taking 15 minutes every two years of your life.
The problem is 30 million illegals given citizenship and voting rights. No way to overcome the seeding 1-2 million in every swing state
If those are choices I stay home.
Trump’s popularity is not solely within the GOP.
Hawley - not a RINO.
Pence, not a RINO (I know that's debatable, but he's no Mitt Romney)
Cruz - not a RINO
Cotton - not a RINO
Haley - RINO
Of course, if this electoral charade stands, who the Republicans run in 2024 is a moot point - I doubt they will ever win a Presidential election again, unless there is massive civil upheaval (I'm not calling for it, just sayin')
Only three sitting US Senators have ever been elected President, and all three are in the bottom 10 US Presidents as far as I am concerned.
The job requires extensive prior executive experience - military, state level, or business.
The major qualification for the US Senate is being a bullshit artist with extraordinary skill at evading responsibility.
For this reason, I would not under any circumstances support a sitting US Senator for the Presidency unless he had prior relevant executive experience - DeSantis, for example, if e were elected to the Senate in 2022.
I would revise and extend your remark and say Trump is not actually a Republican.
Thank God. The GOP is at an end.
That is a problem how? You are talking nonsense.
The Dems simply don't have the votes in the congress to make any illegals US citizens.
Not to mention, not only do we control almost all the swing state legislatures, we actually increased our majorities in the state legislatures and even took control of the lower and upper houses as well as the Executive Council in blue state New Hampshire. State legislatures make election laws.
It will be dead and gone.
No words can express the contempt the American people will have for Republicans,if they go along with this DESPICABLE PUTRID LIE that Biden won (and is also the most popular president in US history) and R's support the coup attempt against the OUR DULY ELECTED PRESIDENT!
I do hope that people do more than 15minutes.
Primaries are where the action is. If all you do is 15 minutes, why bother to vote at all
If all you get after the primaries are RINOs than by all means vote Tea Party or some other 3rd party
I won’t vote for a single one of these bastards ever again.
But I am sure the GOPe will take advice from this leftist rag.
I pray you are correct.
All they need is a majority.
They have the majority in the House.
They may get it in the Senate.
Lots of squishy Republicans will vote to give the so called "dreamers" citizenship.
That door could open for many, many more.
They could also vote to reform national election laws to require unsecured mail to everyone ballots.
I certainly hope you prove to be correct, and they do not have the votes.
Cruz completely lost me when he teamed up with AOC to suggest making birth control pills OTC.
Yea, that will teach'em.
Make sure the uniparty wins forever!
