Dawn Wells, the real-life Mary Ann Summers of “Gilligan’s Island,” was just as sunny and down-to-earth off-screen as she was on-screen, her co-star Tina Louise, the show’s only surviving cast member, told The Post Wednesday.
Louise, who played the indelible flame-haired Ginger Grant on the CBS show, spoke fondly of Wells, who died at age 82 Wednesday in Los Angeles after battling COVID-19.
“I’m very sad,” said Louise, who infamously declined to appear in revivals and reboots or discuss the show over the decades since it ended in 1967.
“Dawn was a very wonderful person. I want people to remember her as someone who always had a smile on her face,” said Louise, who lives on Manhattan’s East Side. “Nothing is more important than family and she was family. She will always be remembered.”...

I saw Dawn Wells interviewed about twenty years ago. She looked great. Tina Louise was known for being difficult on the set. People change. Adam West had a rough time with alcohol and depression after Batman ended. Burt Ward became a real estate millionaire.
At the end, people remembered West likewise talking a lot of real estate with his next door neighbor and good friend Van Williams, who played the Green Hornet.
So many of them gone now. Here’s to Ginger.
Bob Denver had a radio show that lasted a good while. I remember him talking about Tina and Russell (professor) sneaking off for quickies and taking long lunches together.
Maybe his radio show is what you remember.
That's what you call cool and classy.
Tina Louise...beautiful, just beautiful sentiment.
You sound like a wonderful soul.
Now she seems that way
Very hard to work and deal with, during the days of the show
She basically thought she was way better than everyone else back then
Just search, you can find a bunch of articles discussing the issues.
If only she had you around.
LOL!
My wife and I watched the first episode of the first season tonight in tribute.
Mary Ann is far, far, far hotter than Ginger. Hands down.
Sherwood Schwartz nailed popular entertainment to the wall, but it was a close call.
Who would like to know what crap medication they put her on? I bet it is the worthless one with all the dollar signs.
Yes. I have HCQ, but waiting for Ivermectin. Ivermectin is more powerful and with stronger results. Read up on it.
:-)
I have both!!
Rx.
Mary Ann was Miss Nevada in 1960
“Well, the professor was the one to always try new ways to get off (the island of course). Using the missile seemed to be the best choice.”
And such an educated fellow.
I bet he was teaching her to speak Mandarin!
Yeah! Thats the ticket!
What?? No Tractor Supply near you?
I have always been surprised Tina Louise wasn’t seen in more acting roles after Gilligan’s Island. Maybe she was typecast as that same Poor Man’s Marilyn Monroe and couldn’t find scripts worth taking.
I have heard many reports that Aunt Bea from Andy Griffith Shows was the exact same way in real life.
Very hard to work with.
Thought she was a serious actress and far, far above that role as a busybody Country Spinster.
