Why Do We Continue to Follow Nonsensical COVID Rules?

The only demonstrable result of government-imposed COVID-19 lockdowns has been the destruction of national economies, the crippling of domestic and cultural life, the suffering and death of multitudes due to untreated prior medical conditions, and the drastic rise in suicide rates. The lockdowns themselves have seemed to do little to prevent the onset of the disease, hence one lockdown after another has led to no discernible effect—apart from the fact that the virus appears to strike primarily a designated older cohort of the population already suffering from comorbidities. A recent graph charting the effects of repeated lockdowns in the province of Ontario would appear to indicate that the lockdowns themselves are super-spreaders. Texas Tech professor Gilbert Berdine sums up: “After taking the unprecedented economic depression into account, history will likely judge these lockdowns to be the greatest policy error of this generation.”

The same applies, mutatis mutandis, to the mask mandate, somewhat less destructive but equally absurd. After touting home-made, cloth, and sundry other masks for six months, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam have discovered that Canadians should be wearing three-layer masks—a tacit admission that the single- and double-ply masks we have been wearing for all this time are patently inadequate. Apparently, no-ply also works, given that our Minister of Health Patty Hajdu was spotted at Toronto’s Pearson Airport unabashedly maskless and happily smiling, like her American counterparts Anthony Fauci at a baseball game and Governor Newsom of California at his favorite restaurant...

But then, they will be brainwashed to believe that their leaders know what is best for them and they are too stupid to do anything but nod in agreement with them.

Peer pressure. There is no peer pressure with groupthink. It’s already too late by then.

I was told I’d be put out of worship services if I don’t wear the mask. Would be nice if about 50 Freepers would show up at services without masks to show them what we think, but, I know how that works out...

What do you mean 'we'? I don't follow any of this nonsense. I go about my daily business quite maskless, and no one I run into even says anything. I have been forced to wear a mask exactly 5 times over the past year. My general response to Karens, is "piss off. mind your own damned business".

That’s the problem. Groupthink.

Our response should be...middle finger.

Given that I work for the gubmint, I kinda hafta follow their rules. ‘He who pays the piper, calls the tune.’ If, however, my lottery ticket comes in, things will change! It will be time to retire and winter in TX or OK, and investigate seeking citizenship in TX or OK.

I wear a mask, only in the grocery store, and for two reasons:

1: A political statement: This is the mask I wear:

2: Because our totalitarian leftist dictator Governor will send the State Police to shut down the grocery store if she finds out that people are going maskless there. She has already shut down at least 15 grocery stores across the state for not enforcing her edicts, and I don't want to force the store owners to hire lawyers, or to take away the only food source within 25 miles of the little community.

Many of these nonsensical rules are now Law.
It’s often beyond a matter of personal choice.
Ask any airline or restaurant still in operation.

Good for you.

I don’t know why more people don’t wear these types of masks.

It’s easy to make your own if you don’t want to order one for whatever reason. Get a mask made of T-shirt material with minimal folds and “pouchyness.” Get 1-inch or smaller iron-on letters from craft stores, the blockier the better so as to cut B’s into E’s if needed.

It depends on what the rules are. If you would like to go to a store (restaurant), but the store is closed, it doesn’t matter what you think.

On the other hand, if it’s something like having your friends over, or going to the park with your friends, it’s what you and your friends decide. My Spanish choir members have been coming over to my house since April. Committee meetings are online, which is actually pretty nice, but prayer groups have been meeting in person, in many cases.

My Cub Scouts and science team friends have been getting together since May, both at people’s homes and outdoors.

It depends on where you are, of course.

I wear a face mask every flu season when I’m in the store or in crowds of people. Been doing it for years.

This whole “making you do it” is a bit extreme, but I’m probably at odds with just about everyone here on the topic. So it you want to hear a counterpoint from a republican who is ready to die to ensure that not a stitch of liberal ideology lives (I’m a SERIOUS conservative and I’ll take the pepsi challenge with anyone on the topic) I’m ready to answer questions.

I’ve made my viewpoint known several times in this forum.

Wearing a mask today communicates a message. It is up to you to communicate that message. For me, worn over the nose and mouth uncomfortably restricting my breathing sends a message. Wearing it with your nose poking out and dipping it to speak sends an opposite message.

Frankly, I’m pro mask under most circumstances. These idiots jogging, riding bikes and driving their own car with a mask are simpletons. I mean total idiots who just do what they are told regardless of their own philosophies. Mostly they are so soft and weak that they crave being told what to do. I don’t consider these people “My people” or even humans. Just weak NPCs.

But when I wear my mask they way that I do I convey the message that I care that they, and the people around them, do not get sick. This is why I have always worn the mask during the sick season. I know it doesn’t prevent anything 100%. Nothing does. It’s just a message that I send to those around me, especially retail workers, that I value them and their situations. It’s respect.

I can't believe there are still people that think this was about slowing down a virus.

The shutdowns seem extreme to me. But as for the mask mandates...

I’ve got relatives in the health professions who think masks are useless. They will wear them only under duress.

And I’ve got relatives in the health professions who will wear a mask outside even when it’s not required. They believe it’s worth it.

So what’s my point? Their are thinking people on both sides of the mask argument.

Sounds like a lot of work. I slapped a piece of tape on them and use a sharpie. Mine say: OBEY, TYRANNY, SUBMISSION, FRAUD etc. People stare and look a little uncomfortable. Good. I’m in Ohio under the idiot DeWine. Can’t wait to get to my place in Florida next month.

That works too.

But actually the iron-on stuff isn’t that hard and only takes 15 seconds of a press of the iron.

But people could write on disposable masks with a marker.

Actually, that’s better, because other people can easily figure out how to do this themselves and emulate you.

Imagine if a dozen like-minded people decided to go to the same store at the same time with their message masks...
