To call Jill Biden’s dissertation thin gruel is an insult to gruel. Whatever meager substance puddled in Bob Cratchit’s miserable bowl at mealtime was a bountiful feast compared with this paper. I wrote yesterday about the problems with this capstone project, the foundation of her Ed.D. degree and of the insistence of so many in recent days that we must call her “Dr.”
Mrs. Biden’s only original research consists of interviews with two — that’s right, two — ex-students and a few colleagues at Delaware Technical Community College, where she used to teach, plus the results of a vacuous questionnaire she wrote that was returned by about 150 people who worked or studied there. Oh, and she also called two nearby community colleges seeking interviews about their retention rates. One of them wouldn’t answer the question; the other wouldn’t assign anyone to speak to her at all. Telling us about this misadventure serves no academic purpose, though it does fill up four pages of her generously spaced paper. The transcripts of her group chats with campus figures and colleagues take up nearly 30 pages out of 129. The questionnaires eat up another 18 pages.
The dissertation, Student Retention at the Community College: Meeting Students’ Needs, shimmers with the wan, term-papery feel of middle school, although in defense of today’s middle schoolers, they at least know how to use spell-checking software, unlike Mrs. Biden. Her 2006 paper notes that at Delaware Tech, her then-employer, a third of students dissolve into the ether every year, and in order to pad out her micron-thin proposals, none of which have anything to support them except her beliefs and anecdotal evidence (she suggests building a student center and beefing up the “Wellness Center” while increasing counseling and mentoring services), she shovels in piles of drivel.....

My master’s thesis was 2x in length, not including appendixes—copies of questionnaires and such— and had 3x the subjects. The first chapter, 40 pages, was all theoretical grounding for the study. The final chapter was also theory—how my study fit within in it.
Kyle Smith is an excellent, entertaining writer and one of a handful still worth reading at NR.
The weakest academic students went into education.
Then journalism.
Then weak arts and science degrees like english.
Then business.
Then within business, those who went into accounting
Then the harder sciences
Then engineering

Jill Biden is an Idiot, very part time Teacher who allowed Dirty Joe to drive her husband’s Corvette, while they were having an Affair, and Joe wrecked it, and the guy he hit told her Husband that Senator Biden was driving, and the beans were spilled.
Two Biden children are multi-decades Drug Addicts and one of their grandkids is a drug addict.
We should tell the Truth about the liars.
It looks like she is as much of a lightweight as her stupid husband.
That kind of stupidity explains the insistence on "Dr." Biden.
The deception is effective.
An older Boston attorney I knew - Boston Latin, Harvard undergrad, Harvard J.D. - asserted that Harvard's PhD in Education was "trash." (He actually said a lot more and a lot worse than that, but I'll refrain).
I'm just guessing that U. Delaware PhD Ed. hovers in that same territory, probably even worse.
Causing that much pain to a family, an utter decimation, has never even phased Jill.
You just need to know a little more than the grade you are teaching.
Some of them do.
(I got into astronomy before I even started school, from watching space shots in the mid-60s. In 1st grade they had me give lectures to 5th & 6th grade classes. I used crayon drawings of the planets for props.)
You're right about that. But there's a great deal of intended deception in the insistence to call her "Dr. Biden." Same as the "President Elect Biden" designation a month ago.
Yes, but are you the wife of Joe Biden who would have made a decent donation to the university if you got your dissertation approved and passed?
I thought not.
Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama says “My Dissertation was, like, TONS better than “Dr.” Jills’, and she knows it!
Barack told me so himself.”
I’ve worked engineers for 40+ years. Some of the dumbest smart guys you’d ever meet.
...worked WITH engineers...
Jill was the other woman, I personally knew Biteme just after his wife died .....
Never heard the intentional crash story......
Although. just being married to Biteme would cause most people to commit suicide.....
Actually, Jill Biden has an ED.D., not a Ph.D.
It is a degree designed for practitioners, not scholars.
I am sure there are a few thousand people out there who have an ED.D. and did a solid dissertation project that actually did help to solve some local problem, but Jill Biden is not one of these people.
I have a Ph.D., but it is not something I am proud of and I never corrected anyone who didn’t call me Dr.
But if I had a dime for each time someone said, “Well, CTH, you have a doctorate, so let me ask you this, you should know about X...” I’d be a millionaire.
It doesn’t work that way. I know what I don’t know. One thing you learn when going through doctoral study is that no one really knows anything.
Some of the smartest went into plumbing, electricity, etc. etc. I saw what happened in the schools when they did away with vocational education. Now with common core . . .even the brainiest have been dummied down. I always ask, “How were the skyscrapers ever built without the Common Core curriculum?” It was and still is the COVID of education in our public schools.
Not talking about emotional/social intelligence.
You find those people in all fields, more of them in fields that depend less on schmoozing and pr skills and lots of social mingling
I am talking about what it requires to successfully get a degree in it.
