Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has described coronavirus lockdowns as “dictatorship” during a recent press conference with reporters. He described such lockdown measures as “fashionable among authorities … who want to show they are heavy handed, dictatorship”, according a report by the Associated Press.
He went on to claim that the advocates of such measures have “authoritarian instincts” and do not respect the freedom of the Mexican people...

Held off on the big congratulations to Biden that even the Western European and Israeli leaders did. Respected the integrity of the entire process.
Now calling the lockdown what it is.
Did I miss something or am I drinking again?
Go back to the archives and Obrador is a known socialist and Trump-hater. He’s the surprise of them all, and warmed up to the Trump family. I hate to say this but it was Jared Kushner’s idea to break the ice with the mexican govt 3 years ago, and had both Trump and Obrador have a friendly chat to clear the air.
I thought this guy was a Socialist? He doesn’t sound like one.
t post. HOORAY Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador!
mask = mosque = slave of totalitiarians...not free

Did a good job of working with Trump on keeping illegals out.
Out of fear of Trump? Possibly.
For whatever reason, he did it. He made the sensible call regarding the elections and sees COVID for what it is.
But someone will come along on this site and LOSE THEIR MIND that I typed this.
I never said he was the shining light of the free world.
I said he was right on these two issues.
Maybe he just pretended to be a socialist just to get elected.
Just waiting for Chinas counter offer.
You migratin’ south?
Brazil, Mexico presidents become last to congratulate Biden
That’s it! I’m crossing the border!
(I actually do really like Mexico but not sure about living.)
He ran as a socialist, but he’s been running Mexico far more like a one of us than the previous guy. Works well with Trump too.
Compared to our Deep State at this point. He seems exemplary.
Looks like I may be climbing the wall from the US side. Can you hire a mule to get you INTO Mexico? Sounds like he may be better than Biden.
At least ONE North American leader gets it!
Fun trivia fact: the "far-left, openly socialist" President of Mexico ALSO hired Rudy Giuliani to craft a 'zero-tolerance policy' to weed out murderers and thugs committing violent crimes in Mexico City.
Not only would I vote for this guy over Biden, I'd vote for him over "conservative" Mexican President Vicente Fox!
Sounds like the lockdowns are causing a serious slump in remittances to Mexico from illegal aliens on this side of the border.
Obrador:
- opposes tax hikes to balance the budget, proposed austerity measures on politician and bureaucrat salaries and privileges instead, including capping the president’s salary and post-presidential pension.
- reduced the presidential salary by 40%, and has sold off a number of government assets, including vehicles and real estate. He sold off the presidential aircraft to save money, and now flies commercial instead
- an austerity law passed in October 2019 restricts remodeling of government offices, and bans government employees for a period of ten years from being hired to work in the companies they regulated while in office.
- incorporated the federal police into the new National Guard, using them to stop Central American immigrants at the southern border, which “delighted U.S. President Donald Trump”
- vocal critic of NAFTA, supported Trump’s effort to end it
- argued that “the best foreign policy is domestic policy,” in that if the country has no corruption and crime, it will help develop trust for investment
- demanded U.S. investigation into and apology for Obama’s Fast & Furious’ Gun-Running Sting
If that’s Bernie Sanders style socialism, sign me up!
