Poverty is not an absence of property. Poverty is an absence of hope and opportunity and the inability to foresee a better future.

Sounds like liberal thinking, redefine terms to mean something else. I was raised Catholic and understood when priest would take a vow of poverty.
So to me poverty is not having the basic necessities to support Maslow’s physiological needs.
I firmly believe America is the land of opportunity, if people choose not to partake it is on them, or also on the ones that work to keep them dependent.
There are people who own very little, but are well fed and happy with their lot in life.
Is anyone really surprised that insane people are coming up with insane statistics?
The US is the only nation in the world where the poorest tend to be the fattest.
