In the bizarre year thats 2020, another highly unusual event is headed our way.
This years Halloween full moon will be visible to the entire world, rather than just parts of it, for the first time since World War II, astronomy educator and former planetarium director Jeffrey Hunt says.
When I was teaching, my high school students thought a full moon occurred every Halloween, said Hunt. Not quite, though pop culture decorations sure make it seem that way.
The last Halloween full moon visible around the globe came in 1944, he said. Hes written about the event on his web site, When the Curves Line Up.
There was a Halloween full moon for some locations in 1955, but that didnt include western North America and the western Pacific, Hunt says.
While this years Halloween full moon will be visible in all parts of the globe, that doesnt mean every single citizen will have a view.
Residents across both North America and South America will see it, as will India, all of Europe and much of Asia. But while Western Australians will see it, those in the central and eastern parts of the country will not.
Know time zones well? Every time zone has it except those east of (GMT) +8 time zones if they have daylight time, or (GMT) +9 with no daylight time, Hunt says.
Want to see the Halloween full moon? Its so bright at the full phase it doesnt matter if youre in a crowded city or out on the farm. And you dont need pricey equipment. Walk outside, and take a look, Hunt says.
If youre too busy watching horror movies, youll have to wait until 2039 for another global full moon. Next will take place in 2058, 2077 and 2096.
The next full moon is on October 1, 2020 (Harvest Moon)
So the Halloweens moon is also known as a Blue Moon the name given to the second full moon to appear in a calendar month. Just keep your eyes to the sky and enjoy the spooky sky show.
IT also is a “BLUE MOON”...that is when there are 2 full moons in the same month.
And that would be true, what amazes me is Venus and Saturn remain exactly in the same place foe 2 months now
Nope. Summer full moons can't be seen from either pole. Winter full moons can be seen at both. Remember, June, July, August is Winter in Antarctica.
Oct 1 will have a “Harvest Moon” and Oct 31 will have a “Blue Moon”.

An appropriate choice for the John Landis horror comedy movie “An American Werewolf in London”.
Better wording that I
I’m guessing that the moon will be slightly gibbous in
GMT+8/+9 to GMT+12. (Probably full in those areas on Oct 30). In the rest of the world it will be full.
Bwahaa
Hillaryous!
If only the H-word had that nice looking of a buttocks, we probably wouldnt have had her as a nominee, because Slick Willy woulda been all over that, and she wouldnt be so darn angry all the time.
Ahhh, the Witch of Benghazi!
What and evil B
The Moon, of course, orbits the Earth, which in turn orbits the Sun. The peak of the Full Moon is when the Moon is opposite the Sun 180 degrees away. Therefore the Full Moon (and the other moon phases) occur at the same time, regardless of where you are located on Earth.
Despite all the creative Halloween full Moon pictures, a full Moon occurring on Halloween is not a common occurrence and only happens every 18 to 19 years.
