While the mainstream media have sought to downplay the impact of 2020 party conventions, polls showing President Donald Trump surging ahead as the Democrats held their virtual rally have them both stumped and spinning.
“Don’t be surprised if Biden doesn’t get a convention bounce in the polls. That’s not the point,” declared an early Friday headline in the Washington Post. Post-convention surges are hard when the country is polarized and the parties “stage theirs back to back, as they will this year,” argued opinion writer Karen Tumulty.
Except both things were just as true in 2016, which didn’t stop the media from treating the “convention bounce” as a thing of conventional wisdom. Either way, the problem was not that the virtual Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin didn’t move the needle for the Democrats and their ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris – it’s that it somehow managed to jolt the public opinion in favor of Trump!
The president’s approval rating among likely US voters stood at 47 percent on Wednesday, with 51 percent disapproving. By Friday morning, those numbers had flipped completely, to 51 approval and 47 percent disapproval.
These are the numbers from the daily tracking poll by Rasmussen Reports, which is weighted at 37 percent Democrat, 33 percent Republican and 30 percent Independent.
This is in stark contrast to mainstream media reactions to Biden’s acceptance speech on Thursday evening – a brief but occasionally intense denunciation of Trump’s “darkness” in favor of the “light” supposedly offered by the Democrats.
Election gurus have been laying the groundwork for managing expectations about the convention ‘bounce’ since July. American politics are polarized, they said, and the Covid-19 pandemic guaranteed the conventions would be virtual, rather than the normally raucous in-person parties that let host cities cash in.
“Maybe more people will watch the conventions than normal because they’re stuck inside because of the coronavirus pandemic,” argued CNN’s Harry Enten last weekend. “Still, the cumulative evidence suggests that a big convention bounce will be hard to come by this year.”
The popular statistical analysis website FiveThirtyEight – which gave Trump the same odds of winning this year that he beat in 2016 – cautioned in July that convention ‘bounce’ has been diminishing, “likely” due to polarized politics. Their analysis focused on how Trump will have a hard time boosting his ratings without the ability to hold large in-person rallies, due to the virus.
Many pundits said Biden hit it out of the park on his acceptance speech and dispelled any doubts of his senility or perhaps alzhiemers.
Joe did not write that speech. The only thing Joe proved is he could read a teleprompter. We do not even know if that speech was live or recorded and edited as needed.
The democrat machine has thus presented Joe as alive and well and in control of his senses and not suffering from senile dementia. Thus he can no longer hid in his basement. He must come out and debate and give real interviews.
That will not happen, as he does have early onset dementia. It will get worse.
I have been reflecting on my observations of Biden and his speech at the convention. I found my self more concerned then I ever had in the past. In past elections I was concerned about my country but something is different this time. This time I fear for my family. Observing Biden as he spoke I saw a man who clearly has mental issues. With his speaking patterns, facial expressions of half twisted smiles, anger, finger pointing, and fist pumps he seemed all to similar to Hitler for me.
I was thinking how Trumps pet name for sleepy is all too miss leading, For Biden plans to be very much in charge and he will have a small force of people who will carry out his will. Those who believe they will control him are misguided.
After some thought about what was most disconcerting with Biden I came to the conclusion it was his volatility. Since I was thinking prior on what would be a better name for him other then sleepy I looked up volcanic in the dictionary and to my dismay I found it was synonymous with the word barbarous.
You see, recently it was revealed to me a barbarous spirit has been very active in our country. I also noticed seeing articles of this behavior specifically using the word barbarism, which provided confirmation.
And now our country has a man filled of this spirit, up for the highest office in the land, who potentially will gain control of the most powerful military ever. And in his big speech he clearly states he is ready to use his position to muzzle all of us and any others who get in his way.
But to the name of Sleepy Joe and what it represents. No Biden is not a harmless old man who will fall asleep at meetings. He is an unstable man filled with a barbaric spirit looking to gain access to the highest position in the world.
President Trump it is time we call him by a truthful identifier we are not in a time for us to worry about political correctness.
Will God allow this to happen to us, only time will tell. It’s our choice for surely we live in a time of Nineveh. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to correct some of the things that has gotten us to this point.
