Last night it became official. The Miami Hurricane Center has declared that Isaias is now the worst named hurricane of the 2020 tropical storm season.
Funny how “stripper names” and “drag queen names” appear to be the same thing.
That in turn is derived from the Greek pronunciation, as appears in the Greek New Testament.
Well, they are both show-biz types.............But if you are a ‘Drag Queen’ don’t show me your biz....................
Here’s some trivia about names ... from 1950 to 1952 names were assigned from the Morse code list of words, Able, Baker etc. There was a fairly severe Hurricane King in 1950. It is somewhat confusing from the commentary but I think that this system was brought in after the 1950 season had ended (for use in the annual summary) so it was only in 1951 and 1952 that the “Naval nomenclature” list was used in real time and the public would have been warned of specific named storms.
Before 1950 the practice was to number the systems, but not separately, so Tropical Storm Eight could be followed by Hurricane Nine even though Hurricane Nine might have been the fifth hurricane of the season. Mostly after the fact, some hurricanes were given names for posterity such as the Galveston Hurricane of 1900 or the Keys Hurricane of 1935.
The female names were introduced in 1953. They used the same names in 1954 (when the infamous Hazel occurred, but there had been a tamer Hazel in 1953 as well), then went to lists of different names in 1955 with a six year rotation. Names were retired as early as 1954 but occasionally for no particular reason in the 1960s and 1970s, eventually because of a hurricane’s severity (so that name would not show up again six years later).
The system went to mixed male and female names in 1979.
I too. Largely the names were normal.
I say its the whole martyr thing. As we see now, again, with these riots, blacks are jealous of their ancestors and want to play martyr, and have oh-whoa-is-me attention placed on them. They wish to have this martyrdom, and envy the old days when it could be legitimate.
So, blacks started naming their kids ridiculous made-up names and allegedly African names, to get away from the oppressors culture, and make it clear they are different from others.
Of course, at the same time whites started naming kids pretentious names, spelling normal names weirdly, using last names as first, and endless parade of Irish names no one ever used before 1980.
Also what was strange about the mixed name system was that for quite a few years, most of the memorable hurricanes were male names, thinking back to David and Frederic of 1979, Allen of 1980, Gilbert of 1988, Hugo of 1989, and Andrew of 1992. But in 2005 the most memorable three were all female, Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
How about:
Karen1, Karen2, and Karen3 up to and including the last hurrican of this season.
How about:
Karen1, Karen2, and Karen3 up to and including the last hurrican of this season.
Maybe Hurricane Isaiah will bring about the coming of the Messiah!
Everyone has heard of the semi-literate black woman who upon seeing her daughter’s hospital ID bracelet with the word ‘female’ on it decided that the hospital had already selected a name for her baby. She pronounced it Fay-mall-ee.
I have never heard any explanation for the many variations of LoQueeSha and the AintOne that we hear nowadays.
Just declare ALL names racist/sexist/homophobic/figure out what you want/etc
and just call them hurricanes with no name, no initial etc etc
LIBs can fix anything
Then we can make it illegal to name animals and work our way up to humans.
What better way to say fair than NO ONE can have a name or whatever you call it to be made fun of.
ANOTHER SLIDE DOWN THE RAZOR BLADE OF LIFE....
Nothing wrong with the name. It’s the obviously forced unnatural pronunciation that’s a problem. We speak English here.
Some politically correct wacko thinks it’s inclusive to name hurricanes with “diverse” names.
I realized the whole thing was insane when a hurricane with a female name, like Glenda, was referred to by the weather babe as “SHE”.
So it’s an honor now to be named for a hurricane.
Thats incorrect. Names are on a multi-year rotation and are only switched out when the previous name is retired. A name is retired because it was so destructive and/or deadly that to use the name again would be inappropriate.
https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/aboutnames_history.shtml
For example, the name Betsy was retired after the 1965 category 4 Hurricane Betsy after killing 81 people and causing $1.42 billion in damage ($11.62 billion today).
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Betsy
Can you imagine how freaked out people would get if Andrew, Katrina or Camille were used again? For the letter I, these eleven storm names have so far been retired:
Ione, Inez, Iris, Isidore, Isabel, Ivan, Ike, Igor, Irene, Ingrid, and Irma.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_retired_Atlantic_hurricane_names
Combined, these storms killed 1,362 people and caused an unadjusted $164.839 billion in damage ($195.110 billion adjusted for inflation).
There are only so many names available. Eventually, the common names get retired and we end up with storms with uncommon names, such as Isaias.
How about Shi-Thead?
Are you saying the ninth of Av is when this hurricane named Isaiah is making its track up the east coast of the USA?
If so, this hurricane could be prophetic.
Also, does the month of Elul figure into this period of time beginning with the ninth of Av?
Hurricane “Vagina”
Well, I guess if the ones who come from CuniaformLand protest, we will. LOL!
My senior class, there were just four black kids. Gary, Michelle, Donna and Booker T. Washington. Elementary school there was Tony and James also. Other classes in my yearbook were regular names, Dennis, Herbie, June, Pansy, April, Debbie, Barbara, Loretta, Vernon...no made up weird names.
Of course they did, these parents are complete fools these kids go through life with these insane names and they wonder why they dont get jobs for crying out loud they cant even get an interview!!
