Liberals, Secession, and “The Other”
UNCOVERDC ^ | 07/30/2020 | Larry Schweikart

Recently there has been an uptick in discussions of secession. Last week on his #1 radio show, Rush Limbaugh pondered what secession would look like, with California and New York (and some satellite states) leaving the Union. His reasoning was that the liberal states and the so-called “red” states are so drastically at odds with each other that before long they will have to divide. Francis Buckley made this very point earlier this year in his book American Secession.

My first reaction to Buckley’s book was to reject the premise. After all, no matter how crazy California is, there are still five million registered Republicans there compared to eight million Democrats. It’s a tall order to flip one and a half million people, but given Governor Gavin Newsome’s lunatic policies, it might be easier than I think. Likewise, most of New York state, outside of the Soviet Socialist Republic of New York City, is conservative-leaning. In fact, New York (unlike many “red” states) has an actual Conservative Party as well as a Republican Party.

Let the blue states succeed or defeat them?

No offense to my fellow posters but I discussed that very book here three times in the past few months. Not one person commented.

I’m glad Rush is discussing it. Book is inadequate and uneven but the topic is important.

Key to me is where he says Americans will no longer tolerate having to be around the people they hate. Dems hate us and we hate them. Either civil war violence or moving by UHauls to far away places to avoid the people.

As I posted before.

Kurt Schlicter’s books on this topic are much more realistic and more fun to read.

Too late to defeat them. There are far too many leftists and their agenda is completely opposite of the principles that founded the USA.

Like Rush, I've been saying that secession is the only solution, and democrats will not be the ones looking for secession, since they want the whole country under their control. So, it's up to the red states to accomplish that task, since it's getting close to 'too late' with so many blue state residents leaving their areas and moving to the red states and turning them purple and eventually blue. Better soon than never.

It's the only solution, and the only way that liberals/socialists/progressives/communists/anarchists will soon thereafter realize the stupidity of their ways. Basically, there is absolutely no way that the liberal/socialist agenda could work without the capitalist/free-market system being left intact.

Let them secede, or make them leave? They will not succeed in doing anything other than dragging everyone else into the pit with them.

Good to see Rush on this subject. It’s going to happen, just a matter of it will be somewhat peaceful or not. Let’s hope it is.

We need to divorce. But we want Orange County and San Diego so we have a port on the Pacific.

Defeat them or they get propped up by China, Russia, or any other mix of adversaries.

I witnessed the devastating psychological impact of what a bayonet to the chest does to crowd control in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in the summer of 1994. It stops riots cold.

The Southern states should have been allowed to secede in 1860. Slavery would’ve ended peacefully, as it did everywhere else in the West, without horrible bloodshed.

If the South had seceded, the new states which came later would’ve undoubtedly split into many self-governing confederacies as well.

The American Empire would’ve never waged World War One, which begat World War Two, the Third Reich, communism etc.

Can anyone doubt that we’d be far better off today ?

The Red States do NOT secede! They make the blue counties secede. The Republic is ours not theirs. The military is loyal to the Republic remember the Civil War.

“Slavery would’ve ended peacefully, as it did everywhere else in the West, without horrible bloodshed.”

This is my long standing view. I remember debating a history teacher in high school. He thought Lincoln was the greatest. I said “he started a civil war”...

Not sure what you’re trying to say. You’re saying a so-called American Empire started World War I and World War II? And because of America that’s why we had the Third Reich and communism???

Let them? We should be doing all we can to encourage them to secede. Demographic changes are on their side. If we don’t find a way to split, we run a high risk of living in a socialist hellhole with no freedoms and an equality of mass poverty (except for the party leaders of course).

Besides, it’s more democratic and fairer. Right now one half of the country has to suffer and feel they have no representation regardless of who wins. There is nothing significant that binds the two sides together anymore like their used to be. If we split on friendly terms it would be better for everyone.

The Republican President meets with the Republican members of both houses and the conservative Justices.
They vote to expulse the following cities from the Union:
Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, Las Vegas, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles. (Not an inclusive list and by county). New Governors will be appointed to those states subject to a special election. The remaining state legislatures will elect new senators. Original blue Senators and Representatives would lose their credentials. The President would appoint replacement SC jurists and the result would be as follows.
Most of the country would be intact with isolated heavily populated counties mostly on the coast broken off and maybe some New England states. It would contain slightly more than half the US population. It would contain most of the military and almost all of the states. The Blue areas would suddenly find themselves out in the cold they can try to unite to fight the Red menace but they would be in large isolated from each other. Maybe Central Southern Cali might form a country and New England NYC and NJ another. Their populations would decline rapidly as the illegals bail out and other legitimate immigrants decide they don’t want to move into a civil war. The Red USA would control prices on Electricity, Gas, Food, Water and can elevate or reduce the prices depending on the aggressive nature of those cities.
Also border gates and walls would go up delineating the separation. Within ten years the Red USA population would out number the Blue Cities populations and some cities would file and present documentation to petition to reenter the US subject to Congress’s approval and the President’s signature. The US of course still owns harbors airfields army bases and Federal buildings in Blue areas.

Woodrow Wilson got us into World War One. We had absolutely NO reason to become involved in that conflict, other than Wilson’s infatuation with the British.

If we’d stayed out, World War One would’ve undoubtedly ended in a draw. Hitler would’ve never been more than an obscure army corporal, if not for the very punitive Treaty Of Versailles.

World War One empowered Lenin, and later Stalin.

If not for Lincoln’s precedent-setting empirical ambitions, it’s doubtful that these disastrous dominoes would’ve fallen in the 20th century.

At least, that’s my humble opinion.

Not even close. Texas might have some vocal areas, but the large majority is conservative and religious.

The Balkanization of America would have ended up the same way it ended up in Europe. It is likely that we would not have been in WWI or WWII, but it would have been because we would have been in domestic wars, as various leaders/tyrants would attempt to consolidate the countries into a, well, United States. IOW we would have had our own Napoleons, Bismarcks, Kaisers, and Hitlers.

Perhaps we would have been better off allowing the CSA to secede, but for our land to be more than 2 or maybe 3 nations would have been a recipe for long-term disaster.

“But we want Orange County and San Diego...”

We’ll have to build a tunnel under it so the Mexican invaders can bypass our enclave and walk up to Californistan.
