Why Biden’s Lead Is Safer Than Clinton’s
Slate ^ | June 26, 2020 | William Saletan

Former Vice President Joe Biden is thumping President Donald Trump in the polls. As of Friday, Biden led Trump by 10 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics national average and by six to nine points in each of four key states: Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. But many Democrats refuse to trust these numbers. They feel burned by 2016, when Hillary Clinton lost after leading in the polls for months. They’re afraid Trump will come back again.

That could happen. But it probably won’t, and one reason is that Biden isn’t Clinton. You can argue that public antipathy toward Clinton was sexist, based on lies, or propelled by the media. But that antipathy was a fact, and polls consistently documented it. Now polls are showing something else: On identical questions, posed by the same pollsters at the same stage of the campaign, Biden is doing far better than Clinton did. He’s more broadly liked and less broadly disliked than she was.

“...Trump and his team are 10 steps ahead of them.”

From your mouth to God’s ears, I hope you are correct. If Trump’s team is 10 steps ahead then there won’t be massive voting by mail in November. We’ll see.

The wild cards are ANTIFA and BLM. When they start their shenanigans in battleground states in earnest, it will be the end of the Democrats. A lot of mayors, Governors, and Congress critters will lose their jobs.

Every battleground state will have vote fraud to benefit Biden.

Ain't it funny how all the battleground states run by blue governors are implementing no-excuse mail-in-voting?

until they bring up his past, start mentioning Tara Reid, etc.

Biden cannot win- Trump can only lose. There’s an important distinction.

“There will be ballot stuffing and vote fraud at a level never before seen”

Like in supposedly every election until they lose
If these guys were this good at it, they would just win every election with 95% of the vote.

Thanks for posting the reality versus the whining/crying and wetting their pants posts by fearful freepers.

I think they will try. Bill Barr & POTUS are well aware of the issue & may roll out safeguards. That will probably happen closer to the elections cutting down the leftists’ reaction time.

It isn't so much that Biden is perceived as "likable", people just don't hate him as much as they did Hillary.

A good case in point is Bernie Sanders' performance in the 2016 vs 2020 primaries. He won primaries in 2016 by double digits against Hillary that he lost by double digits against Biden this year. Other than his core cult of far-left supporters, most people weren't voting for Sanders as much as they were voting against Hillary.

Similarly, I think Trump benefited a great deal from the anti-Hillary vote, or at least from the fact that a lot of Democrats didn't bother to show up and vote because Hillary was the candidate. We can still see the same scenario play out with Biden if his senility is displayed too much, or if he picks a running mate who alienates a lot of swing voters.

Fearful? Try furious. Did you follow what happened in California during the 2018 elections?

And that’s why we need in-person voting. We have to convince people that it’s more important than fear. Montgomery county had massive mail-in voting for Biden. The fraud has to be exposed with impossible numbers of voters. It will expose the fake polls that will be used as evidence as well. If we fail, the curtain will fall.

Trump is extremely aware of everything in his universe. There is zero doubt about that. Extremely smart and perceptive.

I live in California, and their criminal activity re voting goes back decades.

No one with half of a working brain is counting on California, NY, Washington, Oregone ____________________ fill in the blank to vote for and support President Trump.

Can Biden beat Trump? No. The polls are faulty because they do not factor in enthusiasm. Over the last several cycles those who work in the field of getting people elected have come to recognize that it makes no difference which candidate people say they will vote for. What is important is how enthusiastic they are to vote. A recent ABC/Wapo survey reported 69% of Trump voters are enthusiastic to vote for him. It also said 34% of Biden supporters are enthusiastic to vote for him. That 35 point gap is the largest in electoral history. Consider this: In 2006 the Democrats had a 14 point lead and surprised no political consultants when they retook the House. Those who thrive on being scared of Biden feel free to disregard these numbers, but believe me the Democrats are not.

The premise that Biden is less unlikeable than Hillary is true. He represents a real danger and could win.

Thank you, Larry. Very good analysis.

The Trump base is, and will continue to be, more fired up than ever.

I believe “The Silent Majority” will come out in strength.

Voter fraud scares the hell out of me.
