The only hockey players most Americans can name from the top of their heads are Gretzky, Howe, Messier, and Lemieux.
I would rate hockey at the lowest of the 4 big sports.
Why doesn't it get much attention?
Watching cricket or polo is more enjoyable than watching hockey
Or Zamboni.
No.
That is Italian curved noodles.
ENOUGH PUFFY SPAM !
I would say two out of four ain't bad.
I was probably in my forties when I heard the term "Hat Trick" related to hockey. Still don't know what it means and don't need to know either. Oh, I was probably fifty when I heard about a Zamboni. My Granddaughter got to ride on one once.
"Dese two yutes likes hockey!" LOL Likes to hockey a loogie on the ice.
The standing water in our feedlot froze once but it looked a little yellow with a few dark grey floaters. Needless to say I have never even tried on ice skates.
This is why God made room for flits.
There is a reason that people do not watch the Stanley Cup. I personally couldn't watch 15 seconds of it. They might as well be Aztec warriors knocking human skulls into a goal.
Of course you now know that and you also know something about about the machine that resurfaces the ice...thanks to me.
No extra charge! :-)
because curling garners more interest/curiosity.
When the players are equipped with a stick with a hook on the end, all kinds of illegal mischief occurs. When the game celebrates that illegal mischief, that’s when I draw the line.
Love the “eh?” Reading the evolution of hockey equipment, it tells of the changes in leg protection. I don’t remember such goal blocks when I saw hockey as a kid, or even years later. Some changes about 1998, tho. Recently they were shortened by 2 inches.
I know its popular on cruise ships.
I seen some wannabes pushing a puck around, so I goes back to my cabin to get my stick.
I see that its my line on the ice when I get back, so I slap one into this guys belly and he goes down like a sack of rutabagas.
This makes this one woman start to cuss me, so I give her a little taste of the tape. You know. The wooden toothbrush.
Well, over the side she goes like yesterdays meat loaf.
They had to turn the ship around.
The Captain must have been a tennis fan or something cause he threw me in the brig.
Nice selection of bread and fancy bottled water.
People always say that but if that were true soccer would be the number one sports by a wide margin.
Also Las Vegas is a hot hockey town even though nobody there played it as a child.
IMO there’s two problems with hockey,
1. bad officiating - making the game fair is like liberalism on ice. Low skilled plugs are allowed to mug or even injure better players.
and
2. Coaching
Many NHL coaches don’t believe in maximizing the best players. They’d rather have 4 mediocre lines than one great line and 3 more moderate ones. That’s been true here in Pittsburgh where the coaches have surrounded a truly great player with some truly terrible wingers. The good news is that some newer talent have coaches setting up players to succeed. Washington always set up their best scorer to succeed and now Toronto, Colorado and Boston have done the same. The game will be better for it.
Hahaha... Nice...
Another thing I use is:
“Pick me out a Winner Bobby”... When she is deciding on something - appetizers, ice cream, etc...
Not sure when you were a kid, 1890’s maybe? Goalie pads have been substantial for a very long time, yes, they’ve made changes over the recent years in height and width, and of course not made from leather and stuffed with horse hair anymore.
Grew up playing street hockey with my friends...every day, every season, all day. I actually became quite a good shooter/stick handler. When it came to moving onto the ice there were two problems: very limited access to rinks and none of my friends could skate very well. I used to go to the rink several towns away and skate for 2 hours by myself all the time and got pretty good (not great, though). Another problem was equipment- its pretty expensive. A stick today can run you a couple hundred bucks alone. Then you need skates, shin pads, elbow pads, helmet, skates...just to be halfway protected. If youre talking full set of hockey equipment you may be near $700-$800 today. Then theres ice time and renting the rink...
For me, there is nothing more exhilarating in terms of sports competition than playing ice hockey. Its fun, its intense, its physical and it requires a lot of skill and quick decision-making. If you watch an NHL game and see what todays players can do with skates (most can skate better than you or I can walk!), sticks and pucks, its pretty darn impressive.
