Michigan Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer is the latest Democrat to ban doctors from prescribing the lifesaving drugs hydroxychloroquine and Z-Paks to save senior citizens in the state. Hydroxychloroquine is safe and has tested 100% positive in treating the coronavirus.

I don’t get this. Can the governor do this? These drugs aren’t on some controlled substance list (I’m thinking of the one that is for drugs of “no medicinal value”).

Calm down. It could give us information we desperately need. In a week if NYC (with drugs) is markedly better than Detroit we can proceed with confidence the drugs work. I suspect they won;t do much clinically for the reasons I have posted.
Isn’t this the same party that tells us we can’t regulate abortion because it’s a decision between a patient and a doctor?
The gov has decreed that the use of hydroxychloroquine is “unproven” and prescribing it for the virus causes shortages for people with Lupus and arthritis.
Meanwhile, companies are ramping up production of hydroxychloroquine.
In no way am I defending her. One possibility is that if this drug combination is finally agreed upon to be effective at helping people recover from SARS CoV-2, she doesn't want people to get prescriptions from their doctors and unnecessarily hoard the drugs.
I used to think that sane doctors would intervene in such scenarios, and insist to their patients that they didn't need the drugs unless they were sick, but I've seen doctors write notes for support animals on airplanes, so anything is possible.
Laws governing the practice of medicine vary from state to state. Most/all states have a governing medical board that disciplines doctors (and even they don’t usually set guidelines for treatment). Didn’t see anything about it on the Michigan Medical Board’s website.
