Democrats Join Calls For Schumer To ‘Step Down’ After Threatening Supreme Court Justices

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attacked Chief Justice John Roberts and issued a warning to the Court in a statement released by his spokesman Justin Goodman Wednesday afternoon in response to Roberts rebuking Schumer for threatening Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh at a pro-choice protest rally in front of the Supreme Court building Wednesday morning while inside the justices heard arguments on a Louisiana abortion law case, June Medical Services LLC v. Russo.

Schumer had screamed his threat, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch! And I want to tell you, Kavanaugh! You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you! If you go forward with these awful decisions…”

Schumer continues to face intense backlash for iresponsible actions. A member of the U.S. Senate has now indicated that he intends to introduce a measure to censure Schumer.

Sen. Josh Hawley’s (R-MO) office released the following statement:

“Now @chuckschumer is threatening Supreme Court Justices personally, to the point of implying their physical safety is endangered. Disgusting, shameful, and frankly, WEAK,” Hawley wrote on Twitter. “I would call on Schumer to apologize, but we all know he has no shame. So tomorrow I will introduce a motion to censure Schumer for his pathetic attempt at intimidation of #SupremeCourt.”

Roberts replied in his remarkable written statement, obtained by Fox News: “This morning, Senator Schumer spoke at a rally in front of the Supreme Court while a case was being argued inside. Senator Schumer referred to two Members of the Court by name and said he wanted to tell them that ‘You have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price. You will not know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.’”

Roberts continued: “Justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous. All Members of the Court will continue to do their job, without fear or favor, from whatever quarter.” [Fox News]

Yes, two well known Democrats. They carry a lot of weight and Schumer should be worried. Add a few more Democrats to the the mix and you might have a love fest.

Republicans need to be relentless. We cannot rely on Democrats to do anything about this.

By the way, Josh Hawley underplayed his hand. Either he is a wus, ignorant or both. If you really want to censure Schumer, then you need to call for his removal from office. That might end in censure. Republicans need to aim higher. Take some negotiating lessons from Trump. Call for Schumer's imprisonment, and maybe he will be disbarred, retire before being removed from the Senate, and go onto a challenging career as a commentator at PMSNBC.

Step down? He should be arrested and tried. In all seriousness this is a no brainer. He publicly threatened two supreme court justices by name.

I think this one has legs. And it should. If he were Ted Cruz threatening the liberal justices I’d feel the same way. No man is above the law.

Let’s not forget that Schumer also told our President he was stupid for attacking the IC because “they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you”. I think Schmucky needs to be seriously investigated.

Yes, his actions were egregious, but why is it that no one has commented on his incorrect use of that expression? It’s “reap the whirlwind” not “release the whirlwind”.

I agree with you. NOTHING ever happens to commies. Just look at Slick Willie and the Beast. EVERYONE!!!! was yelling for their heads and especially hers after the computer crap. Where are they now? He is out jumping whores and she is hanging around the edges of the dimocommies nomination if Bernie falters. They are still here. They ain’t going to jail and many raved here was going to happen. McConnell accused Schumer of trying “to gaslight the entire country” by refusing to retract his remarks, and doubling down, saying that he had not directly threatened Gorsuch and Kavanaugh, even as Schumer directly named the Justices.

“At the very best his comments were astonishing, reckless and completely irresponsible, and clearly as the chief justice stated in a rare and extraordinary rebuke they were ‘dangerous,’ because no matter the intention, words carrying the apparent threat of violence can have horrific unintended consequences,” McConnell said.

“These clumsy efforts to erode a pillar of American governance just reminded everyone why that pillar is so crucial,” McConnell continued. “The minority leader of the United States Senate threatened two associate justices of the U.S. Supreme Court. Period. There’s no other way to interpret that.”

You do not speak for me and the many women I know who abhor the euphemism for killing babies, the so-called “right to choose.”

We pray for the safety of the Justices. The right of an innocent defenseless child to be safe in its mother’s womb is the issue here.

We gotta out liberal the liberals. To the liberal mind, what you meant has no bearing, it is how it was interpreted by others that holds the power.

We don't care what Chuck meant, the only thing that matters is how we understood it, and we understand it as a threat, and this will be the basis for our court proceedings.

This puts the liberals in a bind, either lose Chuck or establish the precedent that not everything said is a threat, or racist, or a micro-aggression, or a dog whistle, just because you say it is so.

Although in this case, Chuck may a very clear, unambiguous threat.
