The Social Security Disability Insurance system was established as a social safety net program for workers who lose the physical or mental ability to work at a sustainable gainful activity level.
It has become so much more than that. But a new rule from the Social Security Administration will improve the integrity and purpose of the Disability Insurance system.
The inability to communicate in English does not render someone unable to perform work, but under the Disability Insurance program’s qualification standards, it does make it easier for them to receive benefits.

There’s probably a gazillion other Obama Admin initiatives in every agency set up to bankrupt this country. I wish Trump’s people had been working a bit harder to get rid of this junk. But good on ‘em for finding this one.
Uh, so if this person is a citizen entitled to his/her/them/they contributions, how did they become a citizen. Didn’t we once have a speaking english component for qualification to be naturalized? Time for somebody to start looking for that pony in the stall full of manure.
Applicants must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English words in ordinary use. Some applicants may be exempt because of age or mental condition.
Calling them all as having a mental condition for exemption is not a valid excuse.

Jeez, stop the insanity. The inability to speak English is NOT a reason to deny benefits. But it will no longer be included in the reasons to APPROVE benefits either.
But being a CITIZEN most certainly should be a qualifier.
I don’t see how I could be convinced that anyone who cannot and who will not speak English has contributed to social security long enough to have benefits
Should be a reason to remove them.

Maybe you guys should sign up for disability.
The recent Congressional budget deal reached attempts to stave off depletion of the Disability Insurance (DI) trust fund at the end of 2016 by “reallocating” about $150 billion over the next three years from the Social Security Trust Fund (paid into by taxation) to the Disability Insurance Trust Fund (paid out from general fund). This infusion of Social Security revenues should keep the disability insurance program solvent through 2022, at which point we can expect lawmakers to rob Social Security yet again.
ITEM How do non citizens qualify for SS benefits?......
Goes all the way back to WWII....people from war-torn countries could come here, claim “asylum” and collect monthly SS checks.
Illegals glommed onto it.....claiming asylum from central american coutries’ drug wars, persecution, even marital threats......and so on.
ITEM supplemental security income (SSI) program is a needs base disability program that children, or adults that did not pay enough into Social Security to be insured, can receive. The children’s parents have to be under a certain income limit, and the child has to be disabled to receive the benefits.

they allegedly scammed tax-paid disability claiming “fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms,” and “affective disorders” .......
while secreting real estate, vehicles and cash in US and foreign bank accounts.
I knew a guy once, who was an EMT in the NYC area and he said when they’d get to an accident scene, everyone was speaking English and telling what happened.
Soon as the police showed up it was *No hablo ingles* and they’d have to get an interpreter.
He didn’t believe for a minute that someone who has been in this country for any length of time didn’t know English. He said they were usually faking it.
And so, if they know that inability to speak English absolutely qualifies them to receive SS benefits, of course they don’t know it.
