The number of people applying to be cops in Montgomery County, Maryland, has dropped by half in recent years, according to a department complaint last week. Officials suggest it's because of growing national skepticism toward policing.
"When you do a job that's being highly criticized on a daily basis, we have to ask ourselves, how do we find good candidates that really want to be under that type of scrutiny," said Acting Police Chief Marcus Jones.
Montgomery County won't have an easy time importing its officers from other communities, either. Recruitment of law enforcement officers is down in areas around the country, and the drop in numbers is stark.

That was actually one of the goals of the Left, to discourage good people from wanting to be cops.
The war on cops is astounding. The stress, turmoil, the increased chance of being murdered, the sky high divorce rate, etc. Its not an attractive option.

No, it’s because of the DEMOCRATS war on police which was started and spread by the Obama enemy caliphate. You know, the same caliphate that financed terror via Iran, that financed IEDs via Iran that killed and mutilated our troops, the same enemy caliphate that to date still has not been held accountable for trying to destroy this country.
Pretty understandable when the media is so anti-cop and tell viewers that putting the police into the neighborhoods where the crimes are being committed is racist.
Being a cop to day is to look at a career were every move is high risk of being career ending, where every move is GPS tracked, where every move is video taped and subject to after the fact interpretation of whether you violated an ever-changing expectation of unwritten standards.
That is part of it, but I have to tell you, the calibre of some of the people going into the field has discouraged a lot of my son’s peers.
All good kids, all see the behavior of some of the police and the cover ups by the authorities.
Several of his friends who started in that direction are grateful they didnt.

Cops need to treat people fairly and accordingly with the law.
Cops should not shoot and kill and ask questions after.
I am neutral towards law enforcement, but they work for the citizenry and they need to protect and serve and do their job without controversy.
For the first time ever, I’ve seen advertisements on TV recruiting for the Michigan State Police.
You reap what you sow.
Cops used to work for the citizens in their communities, who were their employers. Now, cops are paid by federal grants, state grants, county grants, and by the traffic tickets the cops can hand out to the citizens of their communities. Now cops work for Big Brother.
Cops used to be part of their communities, now they are the enemy of their communities. I think prospective cops have become aware of this, and are looking for other ways to serve, really serve, their communities.

Didn’t Obummer want a new police force nationally? I remember something like that many years ago and it went quiet after that. I am wondering if this was the goal. Destroy the moral of those that protect and serve and bring in the KGB style replacement.
And they do a REALLY GOOD job of it out of 10,000s of thousands of confrontations a day.

We have a gentleman here in our city now that was arrested 20 times in a neighboring city, he was just arrested in our city because he robbed a Catholic Church of VERY RARE artifacts!!! Come to find out the police in the neighboring city AFTER 20 arrests relocated this illegal alien thief into our city BECAUSE they couldn’t do a damn thing to him!!! YES the church was able to retrieve the artifacts with the arrest!! SO what will our police do with this ASSHAT now is anyone’s guess!!!
