The Civil War Upon Us Part II
ArticleVBlog ^ | February 17th 2020 | Rodney Dodsworth

“Civil war,” wrote Algernon Sidney, “is a disease, but tyranny is the death of the state.”

The aftermath of war extends beyond physical destruction. Not just PTSD in individuals, but rarely does war leave the combatant societies unaffected. The victors of our 1861-1865 conflict imposed their will on an upended South, and subsequently opened their arms and welcomed back the vanquished on condition that they incorporate the 14th Amendment into their state constitutions. Big changes. But, upon curing the disease, the division over slavery, the US grew to new heights in prosperity. During the war, and less well-known, government for a time taxed income, and suppressed freedom of speech and the press. These are elements of tyranny.

While reason justifies these anti-republican acts for national survival, they aren’t justifiable in peacetime. Thanks to over a century of conditioning, too many Americans are either ambivalent about, or actually support oppressive income taxation, unfree speech, press, and surveillance not for the purpose of deflecting foreign threats, but to suppress domestic political opponents.

The War on Terror, sold to the public as the means to defeat muslim attacks, turned inward. We long ago stopped reading “islamic” as an adjective to “terror.” Two Presidents either allowed or promoted islamic immigration in such numbers that openly anti-American, pro-sharia and pro-tyranny muslim colonies have representation in Congress. After almost twenty years, Americans endure heretofore unacceptable and outrageous levels of surveillance and intrusive searches as the condition for simply going about their lives.

President Obama didn’t appoint public servants. He appointed public enemies. Together, these people, unburdened by conscience or virtue, work to this day to remove President Trump.

Bears repeating.

Jacquerie:

You will be aware that I have been posting for some years now on these threads concerning Article V that it would probably require some sort of "black swan" event in order to bestir an otherwise lethargic American public to pursue constitutional remedies to restore the Constitution.

There is a chance, albeit a small chance and one that I certainly do not want to present as a high probability, that this coronavirus might prove so grave a disruptive health and economic disaster that desperate Americans will seek new constitutional revolutionary remedies.

If we mirror to any significant degree the convulsions now going on in China, our country will likely be ready to change our government. This, of course, cuts both ways: the left has a history of never letting a good crisis go to waste and we conservatives are famous for missing every chance. We conservatives will attempt to cope with wrenching dislocations, disintegration of the healthcare system, widespread death, even starvation as the entire civil society begins to disintegrate by lawful and constitutional process. We know the left will not scruple about process, they will go for the jugular, they will seek ultimate power.

I pray that no such black swan occurs, history confirms my instincts and tell me that we will dodge this bullet, but if we are put to the test, we must be as prepared as my ancestors were prepared to defend our liberty.

We do not want the situation to disintegrate to the point where we must choose between Article V remedies constitutionally enacted and a civil war.

Americans have become so adverse to violence, so unquestioningly law-abiding and humble, that one wonders if we still have the backbone to stand up for our liberties. The Sons of Liberty would have long ago started shooting.

If anything, coronavirus will lead to more power to the government, not less. Such was the case with the 9-11-2001 attack.

The political left and political right are convenient temporary labels used to divide the people. Power doesn’t care what labels are used for that purpose.

The people are not willing to take the risks that accompany personal liberty. They much prefer to loot the public treasury.

“We do not want the situation to disintegrate to the point where we must choose between Article V remedies constitutionally enacted and a civil war.”

I do not consider Article V and remedies to be part of an equation. Remedies for what? A broken Constitution? Don’t think so. Broken Government? Maybe, but an Article V Convention hardly offers a remedy for runaway Congressman or Senators. It can empower such to continue their quest for Socialism/Progressivism depending on the results and I am not talking about ratified results, but the optics and the usurpation of the Article V process, by the left and the media.

The problem as has been stated over and over again, is NOT the Constitution, it is the hearts and minds of those elected to the Congress, and approved by the Senate to sit on The Supreme Court, who refuse to acknowledge the Constitution as the Supreme Law of the Land, and no Article V Convention is going to change the hearts and minds of those people, or those who will ultimately be participants in such a Convention.

The Great State of South Dakota has once again chosen wisely to vote down a yearly effort to pass just such a Resolution requesting The Congress to consider a convention.

The Sons of Liberty would have long ago started shooting.

The sons of the Sons of liberty also started shooting in 1860 because they thought a foreign power was usurping their liberties. We might disagree with the nature of the liberty they valued if we confine our understanding of the liberties dear to them to be only the defense of slavery but if we consider that they regarded the federal power to be a threat to their liberties, not just slavery but all of them, one can begin the understand why they sacrificed so much, bled so profusely and fought so bravely.

The extent of our liberties isn’t supposed to depend on the outcome of presidential elections, but that is where we are. From the Left’s reactions, the 2016 election was a Black Swann event; it was so distant as to be an impossibility. Obama, Hillary and accomplices so fixed the primaries against Bernie and the general against a reality TV schmuck . . . there was some 99+% probability of her election. Or so the world was told. [BTW, never believe your own press releases.]

An evil and mentally ill President Hillary was primed to reward her camp followers and positively silence the opposition through any means necessary. She would have made peace with the Bernie-Bots, and thanks to Project Veritas we know for a fact that you and I and the rest of Freeperdom were the designated head-of-the-class internees at their Happy Valley Reeducation Centers.

I don’t claim insight into Chaos Theory, but if it is analogous to one marble colliding with another, then another . . . and the travel of each depends on the slightest of deflections, then yes, , we should be prepared for the worst, because the Left is locked and loaded to take advantage of every chaotic opportunity.

The 13th amendment abolished slavery, if one accepts your argument we have to believe that it did not work and the institution of slavery still exists in America.

Of course constitutional amendments "work."

The 13th abolished slavery on paper.

Do you really think it abolished slavery in the minds and hearts of those who would enslave their fellow man for any reason?

Indentured servants and plantation slaves were the obvious examples of slavery in our early history, it has just changed its form today.

One point does need to be expressed in regard to black African slavery and that is the emancipation of those who survived the enslavement of their own kind leading to ultimate freedom in God’s promised land should be seen as a miraculous blessing. That blessing alone should lead to Eternal praise of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, by the recipients and their posterity.

Project those thoughts to the potential results of an Article V Convention, and you and I agree 1000%.

One of the things about imaging China’s situation here is how “pissed” the “Low information” folks would be at how helpless an overwhelmed healthcare system would be.

Can you imagine sealing apartment buildings closed in Brooklyn? Or Chicago. Their people don’t have guns....we do.

I am not suggesting this is going to happen—in my wildest imagination. But watching what is happening should be giving people pause.

For this inquiry I refer you not to the 13th amendment nor to any part of the United States Constitution but to the Holy Bible.
