I abstain on the first match up.

For the rest:

“Oh, Pretty Woman” Roy Orbison

“Light My Fire” The Doors. (I never got the appeal of The Righteous Brothers.)

Finally, it is incredibly tough, but I choose “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In.”

If I were to list what I think are the quintessential ‘60s singles, my Top 10 would be:

1. “Stop! In The Name Of Love” (The Supremes)
2. “Good Vibrations” (Beach Boys)
3. “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” (Aretha Franklin)
4. “In The Year 2525” (Zager and Evans)
5. “I Want To Hold Your Hand” (The Beatles)
6. “Crimson and Clover” (Tommy James and The Shondells)
7. “The Twist” (Chubby Checker)
8. “California Dreaming” (Mamas and Papas)
9. “Up, Up And Away” (5th Dimension)
10. “Classical Gas” (Mason Williams)

Just the first few notes of any of those puts me back in that decade, don’t care how they ranked with Billboard.

Crying, Surfin’ , Fire, Aquarius

As a side note, it’s baffling that
Runaway (which Gene Vincent considered the
best pop song ever, the 2nd tune I
remember ever hearing) and ...Hold your hand would
ever lose out to a hoary relic like
Summer Place, the squarest instro of the 6T’s
