I’m a big Roy Orbison fan but 2 of the Top 4? And no Beatles?

4 1961 “Crying” Roy Orbison

4 1964 “Oh, Pretty Woman” Roy Orbison

5 1965 “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” The Righteous Brothers

4 1968 “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” Otis Redding

If I were to list what I think are the quintessential ‘60s singles, my Top 10 would be:

1. “Stop! In The Name Of Love” (The Supremes)
2. “Good Vibrations” (Beach Boys)
3. “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” (Aretha Franklin)
4. “In The Year 2525” (Zager and Evans)
5. “I Want To Hold Your Hand” (The Beatles)
6. “Crimson and Clover” (Tommy James and The Shondells)
7. “The Twist” (Chubby Checker)
8. “California Dreaming” (Mamas and Papas)
9. “Up, Up And Away” (5th Dimension)
10. “Classical Gas” (Mason Williams)

Just the first few notes of any of those puts me back in that decade, don’t care how they ranked with Billboard.

No Temptations, no Isley Brothers, no Shirelles, no Stones, no Smoky Robinson, no Supremes, no Four Tops...
