Back about a decade ago with the housing meltdown of 2008, followed by our lovely leader for the next 8 years, many of us started thinking about what life would be like after 'it' happened. Thankfully 'it' never happened. But one of our concerns was a pandemic, not just due to the direct suffering it could cause, but the indirect consequences, such as disruption of the food supply and possibly disruption of utilities.
On a disaster scale, I would rate this somewhat in the middle, with hurricanes, earthquakes, and tornadoes being the easiest to deal with, since they're localized, and a large-scale nuclear war being the worst (followed pretty closely by a complete economic meltdown).
But since Trump got elected, I think some of us may have gotten a bit complacent (I certainly did). But now, with many thousands of people still arriving from Asia, and even most of China, and with an identified 'it', perhaps it's time to check our stocks of food, fuel, our water supply plans, and, of course, our Second Amendment compliance status.

A few years ago, the local paper published a letter my Grandfather had written to them in 1918. He had later become a very prominent citizen.
Among the interesting things was that he had been forced to suspend his studies due to financial reasons. I wondered why then remembered that Daddy had been born a few months previous.
The real interesting thing is he mentioned so many of his friends passing away. Then it hit me! The Spanish Flu.

While there are several factors that make this corona virus very likely to spread just about everwhere (long incubation period and high level of contagiousness), the good part is that it’s more or less like a bad cold to most people with a good immune system. For that reason, I expect that if it gets out of control as a pandemic, I don’t expect extreme shut downs. I would expect there to be shortages because there will be a lot of people making a run on supplies and medicines, and while there will be a lot of loss of life (not by percentage, but the numbers will still look terrible), unless this thing mutates, this isn’t THE ONE.
Why N95 instead of N99?

The N95 has to fit you properly. I’ve seen pics of people in China wearing surgical masks under the N95, which looked like a good extra precaution.
And yet, here you are......
What really gets me is that our government seems to care less. They are more concerned with global diversity, impeachment and retaining their power. Stock up people.
I’m watching for deaths in the first world medical systems.
So far, Japan has 4 confirmed, no deaths and one recovery.
Supposedly ‘we’ have small molecule antivirals ‘we’ are throwing at it right now.
Hopefully they work.
I wouldn’t be surprised if there are people at the CDC and HHS that would LOVE a pandemic to ‘katrina’ Trump with...

A friend of mine died. I ended up with a couple of cans of supplies that he had bought during the Cuban missile crisis. More for historic value. Although I suppose the fishing line and lure might still be of some use in a pinch!

I like walking through old cemeteries. 1917 and 1918 are very prominent. Always sad to see the younger kids. Although the late 1800’s are full of REALLY young kids/ babies it seems.

That is about the same population as the top ten most populated cities in the USA!

It’s not the deaths that should concern anyone. It’s the people who get sick and fill up the beds. It’s the people in the ICU for the week. They will be in addition to the high levels of patients ALREADY in the hospital.
Sure, they might all survive and that is wonderful. But what happens when you have a heart attack...and there is no room at the Red Cross Inn.
This is not about dying from the flu. It’s about overwhelming the system. It’s about the length of time people are sick. And it’s about economies and production systems getting restrained or shut down.
It’s a personnel and economics issue as much as a health issue.
This is what gets me with the ‘it’s just like a bad flu’ people.
If you get strep throat in the middle of this, you’ll have to visit a clinic. If that clinic is wall to wall coronavirus patients, you’ll get that too. And they MIGHT be out of antibiotics for your strep because they’ve used all of them on the pneumonia patients...
Heart attacks, car accidents, etc...you might be on your own.
