Martin Luther King Day 2020

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... – Martin Luther King

It’s Martin Luther King Day, and all across the land people are once again expressing outrage over the lack of diversity in this year’s Oscar nominees. It’s like 2015, the first time Hollywood people of color protested #OscarsSoWhite.

selma obama oprah photobomb copy2015: Obama joined David Oyelowo, who portrayed Martin Luther King Jr. in the movie "Selma," and Oprah, who produced the film, in protest against the Academy’s racism.

This year USA Today was compelled to ask “Is this progress?”

Monday morning's Oscar nominations delivered more frustrating certainties than happy surprises.

Black British actress Cynthia Erivo was the lone person of color nominated across 20 acting categories…The rest of the acting nominations were white…And out of five directing nominations, all nominees were male.

But the snubs. They span Jennifer Lopez ("Hustlers"), Eddie Murphy ("Dolemite Is My Name"), Awkwafina ("The Farewell"), Lupita Nyong'o ("Us"), Song Kang-ho ("Parasite"), Alfre Woodard ("Clemency"), Jamie Foxx ("Just Mercy") and Zhao Shuzhen ("The Farewell").

To put the shock in perspective, 28 out of 32 industry experts on awards prognosticating site Gold Derby predicted Lopez would receive a nod, and 20 out of 32 predicted Awkwafina's name would be among nominees.

Just to keep things in perspective I would point out that 99 out of 100 political experts on polling prognostication sites also predicted that Hillary would win in 2016, but she didn’t, did she?

I don’t know what’s more pathetic about this odd entitlement attitude: the fact that the Race Hustlers have imposed a de facto racial quota system on every aspect of our society despite the Supreme Court having ruled such quotas unconstitutional, or the irony that 50 years after Martin Luther King’s death those same (Black) Race Hustlers – some of them close friends and colleagues of Dr. King – refuse to let us judge people by the content of their character and the quality of their work rather than the color of their skin. For their part they seem quite satisfied “staring into the starless midnight of racism.”

To celebrate this Martin Luther King day I shall stroll along the tree and flower-lined streets of my local Martin Luther King Boulevard, watch the happy and productive denizens go about their daily affairs, and ponder the many ways in which the Reverend Martin Luther King brought happiness and peace to, for instance, the unwilling women with whom he had violent group sex.

I watched a few videos of MLK to see what he was all about.

One interviewer was practically begging him to say that violence in the name of the “cause” was justified and he wouldn’t.

His message was pretty steady in each interview and he didn’t sound Anything like today’s race hustlers.

I know he had his issues with prostitutes and that was wrong.

But as far as a voice for blacks, he was 1000x better than the ones today.

It sickens me that most of the people who live on the streets named after him have No Idea of what he wanted and think he was likely a jackson or sharpton type.

What a shame.

Skin color is not the measure of a person. There is no pure black anywhere in nature. There are no black people. There are no pure white people. We are all one shade or another of brown...except for albinos, who are pink.

Right. King was the right man at the right time. If I had a vote in giving him a national holiday, I would have voted “yes” without hesitation.

But wait. King evidently had serious issues with prostitutes. Well, George Washington owned slaves. And Andrew Jackson mistreated Indians. And Ulysses Grant was a drunk. Etc.

So we can take turns destroying historical figures for their shortcomings. Or we can say that country needs heroes. And blacks need a good role model. King fits the bill in both cases.

Yep, stay away from MLK Boulevard, especially if your a white boy. There is always plenty of racism and war there.

When I can walk down MLK Way at midnight, I'll believe like King.

Bravo...the Founders weren't spotless but we (rightly) revere them for what they did. We often speak first of their writings, the Declaration, the Constitution, how they put it all on the line so that WE could have a better life. We then acknowledge that they were not perfect, often owning slaves and other conduct that was unbecoming, but we ultimately agree that they were a net positive element in the universe.

MLK is in a similar camp. Yes, he didn't help found America and I'm not equating his work with drafting the Constitution. But the man took a bullet for basically saying we should judge our fellow man by the content of his character, not the color of his skin. And yet, some people like to trot out MLK's deficiencies FIRST - that's like the leftist tactic of saying "This nation was founded by slave owners...CASE CLOSED."

With #WalkAway and Kanye etc, we are seeing the next chapter of acceptance and integration of MLK's message. I think THAT is something worth celebrating today.

Heck the left used those tactics to take down all of those statues and monuments in the south.

It was disgusting and I’d like to see them put back up.

If we’re playing ball by those rules, then the MLK street signs would have to come down.

The same with Washington and Jefferson etc.

I hate the left.

I’d say that some measure of credit is ironically due to Bull Conner. Incredibly racist, he moved to crush protests and dissent for black civil rights. He succeeded in the short-term, but ended up drawing attention to what he was trying to suppress, and thankfully failed in the long-term.

Yes, grave injustices were done to Blacks in this country. No one reading this is responsible for those injustices.

Guilt did not get passed down to us through genes. Guilt is a personal thing, and is not transferable.

How about we give it a rest? It was a long time ago, and those of us who are living now condemn it.

Unfortunately, Black History Month really means White Guilt Month. It’s time to stop using that as an excuse for failures.

Just curious how many MLK speeches will include that he was a plagiarist and a serial adulterer?
