I've managed to live without Facebook and Twitter.
However, we're in a rural area and apparently Facebook Marketplace is the place to go for local classifieds for buying/selling and for offering/finding services. I need someone to haul some scrap metal off our property and have hit a brick wall trying to find someone through my small network of contacts (I'm at a new job at month 4).
So I'm reluctantly considering opening a Facebook account, if only because the site's popups make it virtually unusable without one. I've also noticed a lot of local businesses don't have web sites in lieu of a Facebook page. I don't get it, but whatever.
Any advice on signing up and configuring the account to maximize my privacy and minimize annoyances?
You don’t need FB.
Period.
You have learned well, grasshoppah...
Yeah don’t!. Create a posting in Craigslist
Excellent. Reposting in Large Font.
Right.
Upthread others have said if you do Fakebook - be sure to use a burner email addy.
I would add - get a burner used laptop. And use free public wifi.
About having scrap hauled away.
You can’t expect to get money for it.
You have it hauled off and they keep the money or you can just keep your scrap.
Have you tried asking someone at work to post it for you? Unless FB somehow blocks it, they could just say they are posting for a friend, and say to call you at your number. If you want the anonymization of Craigslist, make a CL ad and have your friend post a link to it and make it clear you are in the local area.
I would not use FB unless you use a VPN and know how to clear your cookies.
That's my advice...
Ummmm...kinky.
You are correct. I used word of mouth and Craigslist to try to sell a car early this year. Failed. I then used Facebook marketplace and was getting multiple bites from hour 1. Sold the car in 3 days.
Use a fake email, set up fake information in your Facebook account. Youll be fine. People buying and selling things these days use Facebook. A lot.
Carlos Delecto is open maybe.
Don't.
Best advice you'll get all day and worth at least twice what you paid for it.
