I don't post one article a year. But this is the second one today.
iTunes gone?
It's my sole source of downloadable music.
Any suggestions? I'm really ignorant about this stuff.
Thanks

Sounds like they’re just renaming it Apple Music.

Youtube has even more music than iTunes, I believe.

...
It’s not gone. It’s being reorganized under a different name.

The article says that Apple will now go to three separate apps, for Music, TV and Podcasts.
Seems like an overkill ... like fixing something that isn’t broken.
I’m sure they have their reasons for ‘fixing’ this, though.

I think Apple eventually wants to get into the Entertainment business and compete with Netflix and Huiu.

Sooner than eventually. Apple is working on it now.

I’ve paid a year in advance. Not good.

I’ve been very happy with Spotify, purchased the family plan at about $15/month. Option to download or use cloud. Good selection of music, channels, podcasts, etc.
Connection with the rest of my so-called ecosystem is great. My Roku device has a Spotify channel. I can cast Spotify from my phone to my TV, Chromecast (AV Receivers), and have my Spotify account associated with the Google home minis.
No term agreement, you probably can get a free trial.

It’s probably just marketing bullshit. It’s going to be the new and improved version, so they can charge more for it.
Just like automobiles. Every year it’s the same car just a new year number on it. No changes or anything.

Apple won't exist in another 5 years. It's become some sad combination of Digital Electronics Corporation and The Sharper Image. And now they've screwed over a customer base who perhaps bought their second or third Apple product because of a desire to retain their iTunes library that they either bought online or loaded locally, one painful CD after another...
There's really no reason to ever buy an Apple product/service ever again. Like the iPods who batteries you can't get any longer, they'll just screw you over and over again.

And they are not very good at retention either. You can only load them onto five devices, after that you have to buy them again.
