"In the future, every politician will have a mildly-to-extremely embarrassing video of themselves unearthed from their past, on the internet," writes Samantha Cole at Motherboard, arguing "it's part of the territory of growing up online." Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez should know: While the Democratic congresswoman from New York was sworn in Thursday, she was also going viral, thanks to an edited clip from a 2010 YouTube video showing Boston University students dancing to "Lisztomania" by Phoenix (apparently inspired by this Brat Pack mash-up). "Here is America's favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is," AnonymousQ1776 wrote in sharing the clip of Ocasio-Cortez dancing on a rooftop. It's been viewed more than 9 million times.
If the intention was to humiliate Ocasio-Cortez, it hasn't worked, reports the Guardian, which notes the praise she's been getting on social media. "Can't find the problem. She's... having fun? Has friends? Likes music?" tweeted Time national correspondent Charlotte Alter. "The more politicians we have like @AOC the sooner we'll all be dancing," added actor Russell Crowe, while Zach Braff said the video was "adorable and endearing and charming." Cole likewise sees nothing wrong with Ocasio-Cortez dancing. "It's not a scandalous video, or even embarrassing. It's arguably pretty well done," she writes. Per Time, creating dance mash-ups to "Lisztomania" became an international trend beginning in 2009, which Boston University made clear at the time. No word yet from Ocasio-Cortez, who was a little preoccupied Thursday.
Or did she get fans because in post-Kavanaugh America, dredging up inconsequential shit damages the accuser more than the accused?
She has a great rack.
I hadn’t noticed before.
No one cares about her dance video it’s a false issue.
She was hot when she was a college student. Therefore, socialism works.
Its a cute video and anyone who thought attacking her this way was smart must be taking PR lessons from Chuck Schumer.
Just watched the video...just normal kids having some great fun and letting off some steam at college. I don’t remember that much fun, but us engineers were too busy studying and sweating exams.
Completely false liberal charge that conservatives leaked it to embarrass her. That’s a very stupid thing to posit.
And then "AnonymousQ1776" promptly deleted their account.
Probably an AOC staffer's burner account.
Talk about a manufactured ‘crisis’. Manufactured for more attention for an attention whoring drama queen.
It was orchestrated by the left to get AOC more attention than she already has....A pathetic attempt.
Of course not, but the person who posted it as an example of her being a "clueless nitwit" is the actual moron. A pretty girl in her college years dancing and having fun emulating a famous dance clip from a famous movie is not evidence of anything about her intellect. In fact, the post itself is so off-base that one must wonder whether it really was a right-winger's attempt at slandering her, rather than a left-wing attempt to popularize her... which seems to have happened... and helped the Snowflake Generation to consider the notion of "She was hot when she was a college student. Therefore, socialism works."
Of course. Thinly veiled pathetic smear campaign against those oh so mean conservatives. Good grief. if a person can’t see through that then they give sheeple a bad name.
Why not? Even here a woman is judged guilty or not guilty based on her looks. Many men and women willingly follow someone based upon looks.
Maybe she should concentrate more on paying her employees workers comp.
You got Pelousy an aging, near senile, leader, and a squirrel in new girl clothes getting all the left wing oxygen. We deplorables need to keep our eyes on the prize. The wall and Trump in 20/20. We cant get totally side tracked on the entertainment. Enjoy it a moment, then back to the business at hand. We gotta keep drilling on our senators to confirm our judges.
