I guess I'm here... I came to understand why and how you guys think the way you do. I'm extremely liberal and have a burning hatred for a good amount of the right, however I still want to contribute. I dislike being divided, I dislike any phobias that I know many of you have, and after reading some of the opinions on here I can honestly say that I see no good that can come from this website. The garbage spewed on here makes me want to puke. The clear disregard for political correctness and the way others may feel is so unimaginably disgusting to me that I doubt I can agree with anything being said here. I want to make clear that I'm not on this website to be absorbed into the alt-right echo-chamber that FreeRepublic is; I'm here to get a better understanding of how my fellow humans can be actively saying these things. I do not wish to cause any kind of drama, I just hope you guys can welcome my different viewpoints; If not I'll leave as soon as I came with the knowledge that this website is just a hate filled echo-chamber.
You may find a lot of people on these threads are of the Christian faith. That guides a great deal of thinking and how we relate to our fellow man.
There are teachings from God that Christians follow. A great deal of the laws of this country were originally grounded in Judeo-Christian thought.
Conservatives believe in the rule of law.
Conservatives believe if you don't work you don't eat....unless there is a very valid situation where an individual cannot work. That is not to say we are opposed to helping those who legitimately need help from time to time....but we do not believe in the Welfare state.
Conservatives believe there are certain inalienable rights that come from God. You will find some of these in the Constitution.
One of these is the inherit right of self defense. If you want to own a gun or another means to defend yourself we believe you have that right to do so. If you don't, you don't have to.
Conservatives believe the government that works best is the government that governs the least. A cursory survey of history shows it is oppressive governments that have caused the most misery in the world.
This is one of the reasons Conservatives believe in as little taxation as necessary.
Conservatives believe in the sanctity of life.
Conservatives believe in the right of free speech...no matter how uninformed it may be.
Conservatives believe the United States is indeed a unique entity in world history....a country that has been blessed by God unlike any other in history.
This is not a complete list but may provide a framework for discussion.

Some years ago I was on another supposedly conservative forum where the liberals slowly grew more and more abusive of the conservatives. It served no purpose. Half of us accept what we are told as the truth and muddle about and the rest of us seek it out for ourselves. I have learned that we should never accept what we are told as fact without investigation.
The Democrat party of years ago is not the party of modern times. What bothers me the most is how they pit one group against another.
Women against men (sexism), blacks against whites (racism), etc. And on and on. I am an old trekkie fan and the show that best describes the modern Democrat party is the Day of the Dove. The evil alien thrived, existed on hatred and anger and created an environment that nourished hatred. The alien lost is power when people realized that they were being manipulated. This perfectly describes the modern Democrat party.
And the modern Democrat party is destroying my family with Obamacare and the insane carbon tax that they wish to force on us. Promises or lies? The Democrats are no longer the party of the working class.
I have a technical degree and background so I do understand things, or try to, and this is how I see it.
