I learned to love sardines while on hunting trips with my dad. He would always bring along several tins, and after building up a huge hunger from miles of walking, I could have eaten anything. That's when he would hand me a can. Soon I was devouring them, even without crackers or soda.
Many decades later, I still enjoy them, and have turned to collecting different varieties from all over the world - hey some folks collect stamps, I collect cans of sardines. I proudly display them in our pantry, all lined up in neat order. Thanks to Amazon, travel, and friends, it's relatively easy to add to such a collection.
It's not that expensive; it's healthy; and it adds a fun way to prep. Currently my fav brand are Season sardines in olive oil from Morocco.
Supposedly the world's best tasting, canned sardines, are Angelo Parodi sardines, wild caught and hand-packed in Portugal. I haven't tried them yet, but they're on my bucket list!
Sardine connoisseurs of the world, unite!
Sardines In Mustard Sauce ,yum
Nope,no thanks.I’ll take the dangerous route with sirloin, butter, chocolate and apple pie.
Saltines, sardines and beer. Is there a better way to watch football?
Gotta have ‘em In my Caesar.
No mustard for me, but I love them with hot peppers!
I didn’t know what a pilchard was until I saw it on a TV show. A woman fed her husband tainted pilchards (British show) and I had to look it up.
Hopefully the benefits carry over to anchovies as well. Great out of the can, on Caesar salads, sprinkled over all sorts of Italian dishes and laid triple thick on my pizza.
For fresh, I like them gutted, grilled over flame on a stick or skewer. Head on, eat that too.
I like ANCHOVIES better.
And anchovies are the classic CAESAR addition.
Oops, Anchovies, I do eat Sardies also, prefer in oil.
I buy as many cans of herring as possible. I find it at Wal-Mart under the Polar label. It’s a product made in Germany. Drain the oil and finish with a dab of mayo. Two fish per can. Very tasty and makes for a cheap meal. I also still look around for smoked white fish made by Acme in Brooklyn, NY. That can be a bit pricey but sooooo good during the winter holiday season.
I know, brain fart here.
I enjoy sardines occasionally. Then I forget about them for a while. Thanks for posting. Going to get back on a sardine kick.
Also they are sold in a nice solid can, so even though they are tightly packed they don’t ooze out of the container.

I’m with you, but add in pickled eggs. Life is good.
I like them with tabasco sauce too. Tabasco makes everything better.
I love FR.
Pickled eggs? Ahh yes. A sure formula to rid the room (if not the house) of unwanted females. LOL!
