The problem with Whole Foods is their regular customers. They are, across the board, across the country, useless, ignorant, and miserable. Theyre worse than miserable, theyre angry. They are quite literally the opposite of every Whole Foods employee Ive ever encountered. Walk through any store any time of daybut especially 5:30pm on a weekday or Saturday afternoon during football seasonand invariably you will encounter a sneering, disdainful horde of hipster Zombies and entitled 1%ers.
They stand in the middle of the aisles, blocking passage of any other cart, staring intently at the selection asking themselves that critical question: which one of these olive oils makes me seem coolest and most socially conscious, while also making the raw vegetable salad Im preparing for the monthly condo board meeting seem most rustic and artisanal?
If you are a normal human being, when you come upon a person like this in the aisle you clear your throat or say excuse me, hoping against hope that they catch your drift. They dont. In fact, they are disgusted by your very existence. The idea that you would violate their personal shopping spacewhich seems to be the entire storeor deign to request anything of them is so far beyond the pale that most times all they can muster is an Ugh!
Over the years I have tried everything to remain civil to these people, but nothing has worked, so Ive stopped trying. Instead, I walk over to their cart and

Liberals are sooooo tolerant. I’ll bet he’s frustrated that confiscation is impossible without registration. Might send him an email that his attitude is noted & that you will spread the word.
even the non-sweetened ketchup has plenty of sweetness because cooked, ripe tomatoes are sweet ... the problem with grocery store ketchup is that it’s basically tomato flavored high-fructose corn syrup ... just one more source of the poison that causing a national epidemic of diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty Liver Disease and NASH ...
You are awesome. Yes, the Amazon thing is not working out. I only go to WF for certain things, though sometimes I will add some produce to my purchases, but at checkout I dont think Ive ever saved more than $1.00 by using the WF amazon app. Big whoop.
And Sprouts is my go to store because they have raw milk and a lot of healthy selections for less $. Great bulks.
Actually, no sir, that is not the case with me. Maybe it’s because of my experiences in law enforcement, dealing with those types. Maybe you haven’t dealt with the same people I have. Who knows?
But I do love when someone tells me that, I have to be the one that accepts them. I don’t have to accept anyone, anymore than they have to accept me.
I love your post too! Remember how grocery stores in the US shook up one of the Soviet leaders when he visited one. Changed him forever. Was it Kruschev? We need gratitude that so many stores and options exist here for us, and that working harder or smarter theoretically could get us better food.
Aw, dang. Lol. Gratitude! Serenity now! Lol.
Honestly, if you stick to the staple items and the store brand label (365), you do pretty well there on price and it's not that much more expensive than any other supermarket for comparable items.
I do find many of the customers there to be your typical liberal type - scowling, grouchy, snooty and overall unpleasant people who seem perpetually unhappy. But I keep out of their way. The workers there are by and large always helpful and wonderful to deal with.
Back in the day there was a lovely store called Whole Food Co. in uptown New Orleans, and a second location on Esplanade. There was a time I shopped the one on Esplanade on a regular weekly basis. I’ve been a natural foods nut since the late 60’s. I was sorely disappointed when WFC sold to Whole Foods. The store in uptown had changed hands several years before but the WF closed the one on Esplanade and opened a giant store on Magazine. The parking was horrible but I managed to shop there from time to time. But it just wasn’t the same. Fortunately for those of us that like foods that are more healthy regular grocery stores have been adding to that section for a few years now. I no longer shop at WF, especially since it is now owned by Amazon.
I’d like to put a 20-year moratorium on the words ‘artisanal’ and ‘curated’.
As for Whole Foods being lib, people forget that the founder and CEO, John Mackey, is a Libertarian, and that he got into trouble with libs by publicly trashing Obamacare. I know it merged with Amazon, but Mackey is still the CEO and the place just plain sells good-quality foods. Especially in the meat and veg departments.
I'm with you there and we should throw in "hand-selected" while we are at it. I don't want hands on my food! Let me be the one to select it.
Don’t know who Nils Parker is or anything about him ... except that he squeals and pouts like an angry young lady -— and about nothing of any significance.
Two years later, that's exactly what happened!
I’m sure in law enforcement you saw and dealt with plenty of undesirable characters, far more than I have. I admire that.
I’m just referring to the normal nice people and rude people you run into in everyday life. I just try to ignore the jerks and a$$holes as much as I can.
I didnt know that. Do irradiated foods have to be marked as such?
No I don’t think so. It was a big controversy a few years ago.
Giving out information, problem?
I remember hearing about it, but didn’t gather what people thought the dangers might be.
On Irradiation.
Pro: Old food doesn’t rot.
Con: Unrotten food may be older than it looks, and most states’ laws actually allow grocers to keep repackaging old food until its visibly rotten.
Secret: Most food is irradiated, these days. Even “organic.” If meat lasts longer, it’s not because irradiated, but because it hasn’t been repackaged just prior to going rotten.
Not only is that beef that expires in six days not necessarily six days fresher than the beef that expires today, but they both are probably several months old.
Does it have an effect nutritonally?
