I love your post too! Remember how grocery stores in the US shook up one of the Soviet leaders when he visited one. Changed him forever. Was it Kruschev? We need gratitude that so many stores and options exist here for us, and that working harder or smarter theoretically could get us better food.

I think you are right about Khrushchev but in 1989, Boris Yeltsin visited a U.S. supermarket as well and was similarly amazed. He said at the time (paraphrasing) that if average Soviets could see an average U.S. supermarket, that there would be a revolution.

Two years later, that's exactly what happened!
