Mara Gay, a member of the far-left New York Times editorial board, believes Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) was being honest when he said America was never that great. She also agrees with the sentiment. During a speech before supporters Wednesday, Cuomo was very clear about why he does not believe America has ever been great.
After criticizing President Trumps Make America Great slogan, Cuomo laid out his reasoning.
Were not going to make America great again. It was never that great, he said, as his supporters laughed and gasped.
We have not reached greatness, we will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged. We will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women, 51 percent of our population, is gone, he added. and every womans full potential is realized and unleashed and every woman is making her full contribution.
From the sounds of it, Cuomo was pandering to women because he is in primary race with Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon, who he is obviously worried about.
Later, though, through his office, Cuomo backed down.
The Governor believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality. America has not yet reached its maximum potential, a Cuomo spokesperson said.
Gay, however, is not buying Cuomos backtrack. She believes he said what he meant and meant what he said.
Baffled by the assumption Cuomos America was never that great remarks were a gaffe, Gay tweeted Friday morning.
Sally Goldenberg, a senior reporter at the far-left Politico agreed. I agree! she tweeted, adding, Its also a bold (and risky) statement that a lot of other Dems arent willing to make....

“This country will never come together again.”
The present disruption in our culture caused by BLM, Antifa, Resist and other movements are similar to what anarchists, the American Nazi Party, the KKK and other groups did in the past. But, it is all amplified by the mass media, online media, and the 24/7 news cycle. It seems closer and more dangerous because each of us views it from 10-100 inches at our computers and televisions. My mother, who is 101, said that during World War II there were occasionally war protesters outside bus stations and newspapers holding signs saying America was committing war crimes and we should get out of foreign wars. Imagine if today’s media and internet had been around then. Those few protesters would be multiplied infinitely across every platform and they’d seem like a new consensus.
Probably, nothing we see today is any different than what it was during the Civil War...(there were anti-war riots in New York)...or World War I or even World War II. It just seems huge because the average person has no historical perspective and technology has made the nay-sayers and protesters LOUD!
The answer is to recapture the education system from the government and return it to local control. This way parents can control what their children learn and, hopefully, restore reason and perspective so their children won’t run off and join idiot anti-American causes.
This country will never come together again.
Im afraid youre right.
God help us.

Hey, DIMS—You need another shovel?
If Mickey Mantle had retired one year earlier, he would've been .302 (instead of .298, which he was).
When Cuomo said “America was never that Great”, that wasn’t some slip of the tongue. He was reading his speech and these were his prepared remarks.
It was only ** after ** — way after, 24 hours or more — we heard him backtrack after the severe backlash that he recanted.
So we now know three things about Cuomo:
1. He hates America and what it stands for.
2. If you support him, you can’t trust what he says.
3. He’s a slimy politician with no backbone!
He’s finished as a national candidate. Same as his Dad and brother. The fierce, con-artist and fake-Mafioso manner of them is a mask we can all see through.
The Cuomos think talk and oratory (”city on a hill”) is what leadership is about. It’s not. Oratory means nothing unless it’s backed up by the man and the whole history of his or her career and character.
Stick that in your marijuana pipe and smoke it New York Slimes.
Go to Zimbabwe, Mara Gay!
The nyt has shown without any doubt at all that the biggest paper in this country hates this country and is doing all it can to destroy it.
We’re SO awful over here that millions take their lives in their hands and risk all to get themselves into the US...there’s some world class, grade A, industrial strength, blue-ribbon LOGIC, right there!
How could he recant? He must be literally crazy, a narcissistic psychopath.
Exactly what they want
I actually agree with her. I think Cuomo said what he honestly believes. That was the gaffe. Not that he doesn’t believe it but that he slipped in revealing it.
This is perfectly in line with Obama’s “bitter...clinging to guns and religion and anti immigrant” sentiment when describing middle America.
It was also perfectly consistent with the Hildabeast’s “basket of deplorables” comment.
This is what Leftists honestly think of Middle America and the South and the non Left Coast West. This is what they think of America’s history. These are not gaffes. They are politically embarrassing. They are beliefs Leftists try to not to say openly because they know it will be damaging to them to say......but it is what they believe.
The racist New York Times won’t be happy until the USA is a sh!thole country.
Do you really think we have the slightest thing in common with this individual or Cuomo? I have nothing in common with either of them.
><
And we want nothing to do with them.
frankly, Ms. Gay has been afforded so many opportunities (and many would say, in the modern leftist vernacular: privileges)...that she’s one of the last people on earth (along with the vastly-overpaid anti-American football players and yes, a few crazy anti-American billionaires)... that should be complaining.
graduate of a major public (taxpayer-subsidized) university.
given paid jobs at major media including the Wall Street Journal, Atlantic Monthly, The Daily (News Corporation), and the New York Times.
There are thousands of much brighter people who can write well, too, that would “give their eye-teeth” for just ONE of the opportunities or privileges that Ms. Gay has been given.
Just saying she should appreciate more and write less dribble
