Mara Gay, a member of the far-left New York Times editorial board, believes Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) was being honest when he said America was never that great. She also agrees with the sentiment. During a speech before supporters Wednesday, Cuomo was very clear about why he does not believe America has ever been great.
After criticizing President Trumps Make America Great slogan, Cuomo laid out his reasoning.
Were not going to make America great again. It was never that great, he said, as his supporters laughed and gasped.
We have not reached greatness, we will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged. We will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women, 51 percent of our population, is gone, he added. and every womans full potential is realized and unleashed and every woman is making her full contribution.
From the sounds of it, Cuomo was pandering to women because he is in primary race with Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon, who he is obviously worried about.
Later, though, through his office, Cuomo backed down.
The Governor believes America is great and that her full greatness will be fully realized when every man, woman, and child has full equality. America has not yet reached its maximum potential, a Cuomo spokesperson said.
Gay, however, is not buying Cuomos backtrack. She believes he said what he meant and meant what he said.
Baffled by the assumption Cuomos America was never that great remarks were a gaffe, Gay tweeted Friday morning.
Sally Goldenberg, a senior reporter at the far-left Politico agreed. I agree! she tweeted, adding, Its also a bold (and risky) statement that a lot of other Dems arent willing to make....

This country will never come together again.
The 2018 DNC Platform:
We hate all Whites
We hate all police agencies; Federal, State and local
We really hate the National Anthem.
We hate the Declaration of Independence
We hate The Constitution, especially the first two amendments.
America is not now and has never been a great nation
Can we count on your support in November?
Unfortunately, I think you're right. A great many whites voted for Obama, but doesn't matter to him.
This from the party that celebrates slaughtering babies.
Of course he was being honest.
The only way a person says, clearly and unambiguously “America was never great” one day and then the next day says “Of course America is great” is if he is crazy, or if he thinks the people of his state are a bunch of stupid sheep fools.
Hate filled woman she is. Nice of her to retweet the illegal alien husband arrested when driving his wife to the hospital - and turned out to be wanted for murder.
Willie Mays was never great. His .302 batting average means nearly 70 percent of the time he didn’t even get a hit. Never great.
Muhammad Ali might float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, but he lost five fights and let politics distract both himself and his fans. Never great.
Martin Luther King Jr., in his most famous speech said we should be judged for the content of our character and not the color of our skin. Anyone who quotes that now is considered racist. Inspiring racists does not make a man great.
Thomas Edison filed over a thousand patents, many of which changed the world. However, he admitted that he failed far more than he succeeded. Also, many of his inventions are obsolete and have been replaced. Not great.
A child’s first step? Play performance? Drawing? Dance recital? Not great, not even if they were Olympic-level performances.
Bobby Fischer? Isaac Newton? Henry Ford? Julius Caesar? Baron Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen? No one in history has been perfect, except for one carpenter, and leftists hate him. Nope. Pretty much no one and nothing meets today’s totalitarian left standards of absolute perfection.
And America? George Washington, like everyone else in our past, doesn’t meet the standards on the people who live in freedom and prosperity because of his nobility and self-sacrifice. Not great, not enough for those involved with Diversity Studies.
Personally, I prefer to define “great” so that it is challenging but achievable. I enjoy celebrating greatness in my family and in others. That’s because I’m not a cynical leftist who only celebrates government’s perpetual growth and yet complains that the bureaucracy is still too small and growing too slowly.
Let them keep digging!
So the racist NYT has hired yet another carping feminist creep for its editorial staff. What a surprise.
Do you really think we have the slightest thing in common with this individual or Cuomo? I have nothing in common with either of them.
We just need cwii to fight off all the socialists.
Dont forget We hate men.
Another affirmative hire for the Slimes racist editorial board?
I got a feeling the Slimes will soon regret their recent hires. Since they are from protected classes they will feel free to be loose cannons, and the Rag will be powerless to rein them in for fear of being called racists and sexists.
What a thing for Dems to say RIGHT BEFORE AN ELECTION. I for one won’t forget it. and I’ll bring out my friends to vote the crap out of them!
It seems that the Left equate “great” with flawless or “best”. But “greatness” is a quality and I’m sure we can start with a list of things America has had to offer that other nations simply do not...
things like a freedom of speech and freedom of the press. No state run media here (of any construct greater than PBS/NPR but it does not blindly echo the talking points of whoever is currently in power, it is as liberal as the rest of the establishment media).
things like opportunity to start a business, relocate, choose your own path in life. Guilds and lineage aren’t the tradition of America.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness doesn’t mix well with welfare states, redistribution, and a mantra that all property is theft.
This country will never come together again.
I could not agree more. The union is irretrievably broken.
We hate the military
We hate borders
We REALLY hate Christians
“Great” is a relative term. Compared to every other government to ever exist, yes, America was great. The left is like the upper middle class hippie generation that, when they were young, rebelled against their culture because they didn’t understand how good they had it. But they matured (many of them).
The left is going to find out, eventually, the truth to the old phrase,”be careful for what you wish for.”
Maybe these guilty liberal white people would like to leave the city and live on a farm - In South Africa.
