Alan Dershowitz says, "I prefer to be around Democrats who hate me than Republicans who love me." (49:03)
What does that mean?
Does it mean that Democrats who hate him will come up with more creative legal arguments because they are pissed off?
Does Alan prefer hate filled Democrats because he enjoys the challenge of correcting their flawed ways of thinking?
Does it mean that despite their hated he still wants to be accepted by Democrats -- like the prodigal son coming home to Martha's Vineyard?
Does it mean that he is a phony on Fox News or Judge Jeanine and Laura Ingraham?
Who know what is going through Dershowitz's mind. On one hand, it could be bordering on near masochistic love, and on the other hand, it could be that he openly loves Democrats despite their flaws and terrible treatment of him. It could be some of these possibilities, it could be none.
But whatever it is there is almost a fawning quality to Alan in this interview because Democrat acceptance seems very important to him -- maybe as important as his civil rights principles. Democrats always fear being ostracized from the party and here you see it first hand. You see the power of the tribe or collective. And it's kind of sad. Why? It is sad because the collective goes against the very core of our liberty, which is the individual. As much as Alan cares for civil rights, cares for the individual and liberty, he still feels the pull of the collective. He wants to go back to a oneness harmony, a unity or... to use a Star Trek reference... he wants to go back to a BORG mind. Dershowitz or Locutus of Borg? Who will win out?
Despite all this speculation something about his statement bugs me. If anything, I don't think he thinks too highly of Republicans. And maybe that's the long and short of it.

Perhaps I’m being unfair, but I wonder if he sees this as pretty much a Christian/non-Christian thing. When he’s with Republicans maybe he feels like they all expect him to go to Hell while they smugly go to Heaven but when he’s with Democrats he is somehow comforted by the fact that everyone in the room just expects to be turned into worm food, with no judgment at all.
I’ve known a lot of Liberals with seriously flawed views of Christians/Conservatives.

Rush joked the other day that Dersh sits in his office with 6 cameras on him each night, an aide telling him which show’s camera is currently on, and he turns to that one.
This interview reveals the contempt he has for all of us, but to save his bacon (well, his little kosher wiener), he comes a’calling, because only we conservatives are dumb enough to fall in love with anyone who spouts our side, even just a little. We have proven our support for any transgression if they talk our talk.
Yes. A lot. I don't understand Jews feeling this way, and I am part Jewish. Yes, Germany was a Christian nation, but what Hitler and the Reich did to the Jews and the world was in no way directed by Christianity. Conversely, it was largely Christians in the armies that liberated the concentration camps.

A leftist politically. But with a whole lot more integrity than most of today’s commie-style political hacks. Alan has on several occasions spoken truth - much to the consternation of the dnc/socialist party bosses etc. give him credit when he does this, it costs him greatly ( But yes, I still disagree with a whole lot of his economics and social politics).
An uber liberal that believes in the constitution as written. I trust him with my sacred constitution but keep him away from my legislature.

He says he is a Libertarian. He does have that streak but with a liberal bent to it and that is where we part company.
