I was a customer for the last probably close to 15 years, at least 10 and I cancelled it last week because of the Obama-Jarrett thing. My little $10 a month is not going to that.
I too have noticed more foreign films. I have found that if you click on the movie to get more info about it, the last line on the left side under the actors, director, etc says language & will list if its subtitled or dubbed.
Netflix instant watch has been circling the drain for a while and the DVD part will follow. They just aren’t getting the content, they are going to lose Disney and large libraries have been acquired by their competitors. I am really pissed when they finally put some new content up and half of it is crap they produce or half is bollywood crap. I seriously doubt they have that large of a Hindu customer base in America.
Why are you doing business with a company that just put Susan Rice on its board and makes payoffs to the Obamas?
Don’t pay for the rope they’re trying to hang you with.
Obama and Netflix. All I can think of are the scenes in Clockwork Orange.
Last month, I sat and watched a Si-Fi series from Denmark...’Rain’. They had offered the English option but it was one-star in terms of the voices being used, so I switched back to English-subtitles. I have though...it was a pretty good story and will be waiting on season two.
I think the foreign movie and TV series idea is a good idea and at least gives you something different.
I do not like subtitles/closed caption foreign — especially if they are Netflix productions. If I want to read, I will get a book. One is either reading or watching — not both — so why waste film on something has to be read.
Netflix does add a lot of bollywood type movies and series. Amazon Prime does similar. AP has a lot of old movies that have been sort of remastered for the wide screen. AP also has a lot of Independent movies — most of which are bad acting and poor scripts and waste of time. AP is also bad about initially offering a movie or series as Prime and then switching it to purchase/rental after a few weeks. A while back, AP started allowing users to upload video, so now their listing has a lot of short video junk. And they just raised their annual Prime by $20.
you can get rid of most the foreign language stuff by going into your profile and selecting the languages you want for movies.
go to your account settings then hit on the link to profile from there you will be given a list of languages chose English and that should fix the problem.
Their stock is making a ton of money though. I bought a couple months ago and made over 50%.
With the power of computers these days, they really should be able to offer both dubbed and subbed movies. I watch anime and I get that option on much smaller platforms.
I cancelled mine
So pretty much the only thing you can stream on Netflix is Netflix series/movies or stuff from independents/foreign moviemaking companies.
All of the great classics and mainstream movies are theoretically available on DVD, but Netflix doesn't do a good job of replenishing its supply of broken and unreturned DVDs so there are ridiculously long waits even if you decided to keep the DVD option.
I'm thinking of getting rid of Netflix and replacing with Amazon Prime or Hulu. Hulu seems to have a deal with Criterion which has a great store of classic, foreign, and classic foreign films. That's my personal sweet spot.
The dearth of good movies on Netflix is amazing. Just try typing the name of your favorite actor, actress, or director into the search window and see if any movies come up. For example, no Tom Cruise movies most likely because Netflix just ran an anti-Scientology series. I'm no fan of Tom Cruise the Scientologist but he's a decent actor and seems to have a good eye for what movies to act in.
You'll have similar results for pretty much any decent performer or director you choose.
Netflix is a wasteland populated by weirdo zombie Netflix creatures.
Before canceling, watch both seasons of the Norwegian TV series “Occupied” in subtitled form.
IMO, the first season was better than the second. Great demonstration of what happens when a nation goes full libtard. YMMV.
Politics aside, I’d sure hate to see that happen. The subtitled foreign films are great. Love the science fiction. Examples:
Just finished the third year of “The Ministry of Time” (El Ministerio del Tiempo) in Spanish - subtitled. Brilliant!
Went for a second shot of “He’s Back!” (Er ist wieder da) subtitled - in German.
“The Returned” (Les Revenants) series in French also subtitled. (The American series was awful).
Just get Filmstruck which has better movies, subtitles for foreign movies.
There.
Their.
They’re.
Different words mean different things. There is not an interchangeability in their meanings when they’re used correctly.
Netflix definitely is going down the drain. Not only did they give Obama a show, but Michelle Wolf (the comedian who made fun of Sarah Sanders) has a weekly show now.
Stock is at an all time high.
“But why do they keep it a secret (language of the film) until you try to watch it.”
Annoys the CRAP out of me also. It would be great if someone could assemble a database of their shows that are NOT in English, and then we print it out, and check the list to see if what we want to watch is on that list.
